Thank you. How is adult defined?

Usually, 18+

PPM Losers - KGO, KLLC, KFRC, KSFO, KBLX, KDFC...

What surprises me, though is KQED at 5th place. I'd have thought they'd be higher, especially than KSAN and KFOG.

Interesting that KCBS is up there in 25 to 54. I wouldn't have expected it.

With numbers like that to crow about I wouldn't be surprised to find
either "commercial sponsorships" to increase or a bi-i-ig pledge
drive
to air on KQED real soon.

How long before KFRC cleans house?
[/quote]

Not that KFRC doesn't need to "clean house"...the station is more or less dead in the water. But what about Alice? 97.3 has been getting poor ratings for years now.

Too bad about KDFC. It's been rumored that Entercom would love to have an excuse to pull the plug on the classical format. If true, a few bad PPM reports could give them the ammunition they need...especially if advertisers start pulling out.

As for KQED "only" being number 5 - I assume PPM is measuring throughout the broadcast day. I bet they rate much higher in morning and afternoon drive times. I love KQED, but I bet I'm typical of their listeners. I try to catch Morning Edition and the afternoon news and financial programming. But I tend to be a hit-or-miss listener the rest of the time, unless I'm in my car.

And Entercom is going to come up with what to replace it? I read a lot of speculation about format changes and I see that most of it originates with people who don't like a particular format and are experiencing wishful thinking that it would go away. I doubt KDFC's classical format is going away anytime soon.

Sorry, I didn't mean to re-awaken all the speculation about the future of the classical format in the Bay Area, or give credence to all the "Q-102" nuts. In the past, I've joined in de-bunking the speculation given KDFC's formerly high ratings (pre-PPM). I like the station, and was a little alarmed to see how they had fallen due to PPM. That's all.

I don't give a rats rear end about this format. But IF they were to re-do the format on the 102 frequency, I would like to see (hear) it as Q-102. That's it, nothing more. I am not losing sleep over this, nor do I know any of the other "nuts" that are pushing this subject.

Having said that, therefore I will never mention a Q-102 on this or any other board again. How's that for being "NUTS" about it!

Does anyone know how often the PPM's are swapped out between different panelists? I found an FAQ on this page:

http://www.arbitron.com/portable_people_meters/ppm_sf.htm

which seems to indicate that they are active for 24 months unless someone doesn't comply with the rules or decides not to participate. They also apparently have 2146 active daily participants in San Francisco and 866 in San Jose. So that would be a lot of people to swap out every month. But my experience is that people don't change their radio listening habits much. So a person who listens to KYLD in July will probably listen to KYLD in August, right? It seems like this survey system is more dependent on luck-of-the-draw than a monthly random sampling.

Arbitron says the panel churn is about 10% per month.

Panelists are not individualy on or off. Panel households are. If one member of a household does not comply and can not be expected ot comply, the entire household is removed from the panel.

Anyway a panel is not supposed ot change each week or month, and the advantage is to be able to see behaviour over time. A person's P1 station changes a number of times a year, and that is one thing a panel can see and a weekly sample can not.

In theory, the panel matches every stratificationb variable perfectly, and should need no weighting at all. The reality is that such perfection never occures, and minimal weighting does occur. Nonetheless, PPM numbers are much more stable, and allow us to drill down to the day and hour and quarter hour with considerable reliability.

WOW! BERNIE WARD LEAVES THE STATION AND KGO FALLS APART!

WHO WOULDA THUNK IT?

Jeez, KIFR...stop shouting. Do I really have to apologize a second time in one day on the same thread? I don't consider you a "nut" - you've only mentioned "Q-102" a few times, and I always thought you were having fun with it.

By "nuts," I was referring to the people who have speculated endlessly and repetitively on KDFC's future since the minute Entercom took over, even after the company made it fairly clear that they would stick to Bill Lueth (PD) and classical for the forseeable future.

Then there is the one particular person who posts here (not you) ...every time any station has a ratings hiccup, he will demand that it flip to CHR and be renamed "Q this," "Z that," or "B whatever," and use the slogan "Today's Hit Music.".

His user name shall remain unspoken so I won't have to apologize to him, too.

Tell you what, let's compromise. How about "Classical Q-102" ?

No need to apologize. Yes I was having fun always throwing that possibility in the mix. I didn't mean for that to come off as shouting. Life is good again!
