Praise 92.7?

I heard some imaging on 92.7 saying something 'inspirational' was coming.

Maybe a simulcast? What would they do with 100.9? 92.7 is trying to up their power to 25kw, but 100.9 is only increasing to 6kw. What would they do with a class A? Who could they compete with? It doesn't make any sense.

According to the application, 92.7 will upgrade from Class A (6 kw) to Class C3 (25 kw) at current facilities.
It'll be directional with a 58% null to the west and southwest (to protect WESC)
and a 50% null to the southeast (to protect WEGX)...Full 25 kw to the north, northeast, northwest and south.
This'll put the 60 dbu to almost Rock Hill (out to 39km) or just past Mooresville (also out to 39km).
Little or no change in signal towards the west or southeast towards the nulls (60 dbu out to about 28km).

Very interesting --- I wonder what will become of this? Steve.

WPZS is currently increasing power to 6kw

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WPZS

I just looked at the FCC 60 dBu contour maps for 100.9 current transmitter & the CP.
The 60 dBu coverage maps are almost identical, with about half-mile loss to the north
and a half-mile gain to the west after the upgrade, not really a big difference.
Currently it's 5.2 kw at 107 meters HAAT, and the upgrade is for 6 kw at 100 meters HAAT.

I wonder if that means 100.9 is moving there?

I was listening to 92.7 today on the way into Indian Trail. They made an announcement that "Old School Listeners Need To Switch To 105.3" and that 92.7's Format "Will Be Gone In A Couple Of Days". I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Steve.

This begs the question...what will become of WPZS? A new format maybe?

Yes. A Badly Needed Format Change: REAL OLDIES, 50s-70s-Style. After the dust settles, it would be GREAT to see REAL OLDIES return to Charlotte FM Radio. Steve.

And given its transmitter location, they're really more in a position to reach rich white people--smooth jazz anyone?

I was in Charlotte last night, and I heard My 92.7 announce they'd be gone on September 13th,
and told listeners to "make the switch" to Old School 105.3

In my opinion, 105.3 and 92.7 are very different in alot of ways, 105.3 won't play any new stuff such as that heard on 92.7,
so alot of people will miss 92.7 or be forced to 'switch' to 101.9 to hear any new R&B.

I say just switch 92.7 & 100.9 since 92.7 will cover more area than 100.9 after both stations upgrade their signals.

Power 98 plays quite a bit of R&B especially during the daytime and overnight hours. There is really no shortage of R&B stations in Charlotte.

Anybody know what time the transition's happening? Can't listen on my phone. It's sometime today or tomorrow.
