Praise 92.7?

It could be a requirement of the tower owner. Or maybe the 100 meter spot was unavailable at the time the originally went up there and now it's available. It won't cost them much to make this change. As far as Radio One simulcasts, do any of their other simulcasts overlap as much as 92.7 and 100.9? 100.9's contour is almost 100% within 92.7 post upgrade contour. The only simulcast I am familiar with is Foxy in Raleigh. The 107 frequency fills Durham and west where 104.3 is clobbered by104.1 in Winston-Salem. Not too much overlap. I think format change eventually or a sale. Probably format change.

100.9 is at 5.2kw and the higher tower height. This was due to the city putting antennas on the tower without there knowledge directly behind there antenna. The other CP is just stuck in the FCC website

It looks like R1 may be about to flip either 100.9 or 92.7. They just changed their logo and flipped the places of 100.9 and 92.7 ??? They also changed the title on their website from Praise 92.7/100.9 to Praise 100.9 & 92.7 ??? ??? Also, an update to power changes, 100.9 is no longer going ahead with power upgrade on 100.9, but the increase on 92.7 continues.

How long is the simulcast going to continue? Having the same format on both stations is a waste.

I don't know whats the hold up for Radio One to launch Urban Contemporary in Charlotte. Maybe they're waiting for listeners to get familiar with Old School 105.3.

I'm still a V101.9 P1. Old School 105.3 is sounding staler and more desperate by the day.

Power 98 on the other hand, needs some competition! I like what they're doing with all their community work, and I'm still feeling a couple of their personalities. Musically they suck. Their whole playlist turns over in 2 hours. I don't have a reason to listen anymore. I'm not missing anything. Same songs over and over and over!

This whole 92.7/100.9 simulcast is a joke. Is it supposed to go on indefinitely? I don't know exactly what they could do with 100.9. Trying to go up against 97.9 or 101.9 with that stick would be a joke.

Radio One has been experimenting with some non-Urban formats lately, such as Sports, All-News, and Adult Hits. They have had a pretty adult-oriented CHR in Indianapolis for ages. Not suggesting any of these, but it doesn't HAVE to be an Urban format on 100.9 if they ever change it. They could go after Power, but would fail miserably with such a signal disadvantage.

How about 100.9 changing city of license and becoming a C3? What would you think of 100.9 carrying the ESPN network and bringing back Packer and having Gerry V in the middays with Mike and Mike in the Morning? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

I don't know much about Radio One in Charlotte but I wonder if they have enough studio space to run 3 different stations? Maybe that is why they are simulcasting 92.7 and 100.9.

I am not sure changing the City of License for 100.9 would make much of a difference. I have a feeling it is engineered in as tight as it can be. I would think WIFM in Elkin would file against any move closer to them.

I think there will be an all sports FM in Charlotte sooner or later. 100.9 might fit the bill. I wonder how much better it would do if they turned the stereo off?

What about 92.7? They're upgrading 92.7 to a C3. The simulcast gave Praise a bump at first, but it's falling back off now. Maybe they'll go after Power.

Radio One Charlotte has 5 studios. 2 production, 2 main and 1 extra. Space isn't a problem. They just moved into a new building in 2008.

If they were going to change anything (city of license) with 100.9, wouldn't they have already done it? They're making all these changes to 92.7.

I don't think anybody is going to create a new sports station on FM. Not a big enough audience left. 1660 has CBS and 730 has ESPN, then there's 610. The other networks wouldn't be worth FM.

Wouldn't R1 be wasting their time trying to go up against Power? The 100.9 signal is so dwarfed by 97.9. IMO, it seems like 105.3 would be the best signal to go up against Power, but they obviously chose to go in another direction there.

I would think any format could be put on 100.9 and make some money. Selling 3 formats will make more $$ then selling 2. They could do sports, talk, oldies, classic hits, soft ac, christian CHR (like His Radio Z), heck, Boston just got a dance station. Anything is better then the waste it is now.

I think 92.7 would have a chance against Power. It'll be a C3. Musically, Power 98 sounds terrible! Their playlist is way too narrow and their spins are way too high! Power does have an advantage on talent, heritage and community involment, though.

If Radio One did try to threaten Power 98 then watch their playlist expand and become more dayparted for sure. CBS won't let Power 98 to falter to Radio One in its last urban station markets.

Radio One has had over a year since flipping Praise 92.1 in Houston to all news, News 92 FM. Even though they hired lots of well-known news and sports staff, the station is struggling in the ratings. I would imagine that experience would prevent an all-news format in Charlotte by them. At least in Houston, their other stations top the ratings.

Doesn't look like the 2 signals are helping them. I can't see that this is a long-term plan.

I would disagree about the signals The last few weeklies has Praise #2 Women 25 - 54 Middays, #1 Women 25 - 54 Afternoons, #2 Women 25 - 54 Nights, The question is, are they going to turn that into $$$$$

When will these people learn?

I agree that Power 98 is probably a good station but just not what true hip-hop fans want. 100.9 is in a poor location since most of the black people are on the north and west sides of town and 100.9 is southeast of Charlotte. 92.7 is in a perfect location, though.
