Praise 92.7?

Da Mac QC said:
What about 92.7? They're upgrading 92.7 to a C3. The simulcast gave Praise a bump at first, but it's falling back off now. Maybe they'll go after Power.

Radio One Charlotte has 5 studios. 2 production, 2 main and 1 extra. Space isn't a problem. They just moved into a new building in 2008.

If they were going to change anything (city of license) with 100.9, wouldn't they have already done it? They're making all these changes to 92.7.

Mod to cp will be filed shortly 10.5 kw @ 134 meters compared to 6kw @ 233 ft up and running within 6 months directional antenna to protect the simulcast

The towers for 92.7 and 100.9 are only 10 miles apart and already overlap by more than 50%. After the CP is complete, the 92.7 signal will pretty much encompass 90% of 100.9's signal. Monroe is pretty much the only place where 100.9 will have a slight advantage. For those on the SE side of Charlotte, 100.9 will only be better as a stronger signal for that area, but 92.7 still does great there as well.

This past weekend I was having trouble with WPAW. Normally, that is because of WEGX, But the music I was hearing matched what Praise 92.7 plays.

I rarely picked up the station before when it was still urban.

God does interesting things Wait until the new antenna comes in

This past weekend I was having trouble with WPAW but it was because of the race. WEGX is a NASCAR station ...

Something you can't say about the big country stations around here.

The new antenna starts being installed on Monday We will switch to the new antenna once we get Program Test Authority

I knew they hadn't done anything because when I was picking up a mystery station and trying to get it back, I got a very faint signal from 92.7, which is all I've ever gotten. The mystery station may have been Eagle 92.9 based on the commercials.

I've been getting a much weaker signal on 92.7. I assume it's because of some change they've made on their tower due to the increase. 92.7 used to be very strong where I live, in southwest Charlotte. Hopefully, once this increase is completed the signal will be better than before in my area. Any idea when everything will be completed?

We had to delay antenna installation for 2 days as one of the tower crew members had a heart attack Installation will be finished this Tuesday. Then we will wait until we receive PTA from the FCC. Then we will cut over to the new antenna one night at midnight where 92.7 will be a C3 10,500 watts @ 444ft directional of course, the pattern looks like a mushroom

That's great! What is Radio One going to do about 100.9? I would see about moving it to cover Rock Hill or Gastonia, or try and work out a deal to swap it with maybe 106.1 or 107.1? If that doesn't work, buy another station and sell off 100.9. I'm not sure about the spacing with 100.9, so I don't know if moving it is even possible. Rock Hill and Lancaster do have a large black population, and the big sticks do have the advantage.

It can be a C3 located somewhere near Pineville No plans of yet But it is #1 12+ in the afternoons in the past few weeklies It seems like it is working but can they create the $$$$ with it That is the question

I definitely think it should be looked at. There are PPM's in Rock Hill.

We will see if Praise can maintain their numbers. They just swapped the midday and afternoon show, and James Fortune is still relatively new. They've had a good month before, and fallen right back off, so we'll see.

I know most of Radio One's gospel stations operate at a loss.

I do like a lot of the music they've been playing on 105.3. It's starting to come together. I see they had a good month in August. I do think there will be a point in time where all the gold will become stale and 105.3 will be forced to flip, though. I don't see old school as a long term solution.

WBAV-FM has been dominant for years, and they're still in that denial stage. They've refused to acknowledge or address some of their deficiencies. I do think they will get it together and win in the end. CBS Radio believes in local radio and is very active in the community, which gives them a huge advantage, something Radio One has refused to see the value of.

Radio One still hasn't brought Rickey Smiley to Charlotte yet? What's the hold up?
As long as Radio One is cashing in on its urban ac's everywhere, it will NEVER launch another hip hop station ever, whether it's mainstream urban or rhythmic. RO only launched hip hop four times: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Charlotte (defunt Hot 92.7) and Dallas. Of those four, 97.9 The Beat DFW has never changed a frequency.

Radio One has an Urban/Rhythmic station in every market except Charlotte. Get your facts right. While I hope they don't go that direction here, I wouldn't count it out as an option. Radio One doesn't do the 18-34 stations very well. They're losing in every market except DC. That being said, from a revenue side I would see urban/rhythmic bringing in more money than gospel. Also, Rickey Smiley is Radio One's "in house" morning show. He would do mornings if they chose to go that direction.
