Predictions for 2007 in Panama City

852radiodude,
what is your problem with Magic? did they fire you? if not, why the attacks?

I went in to this before and it was deleted (censored). So I will not go into it again. But to answer your question, I have problem with Magic and the people trying to run it. From the very top D. McCoy to his incompetent local "managers" in PC. They are bad people and I will point out everything they do wrong. Read my previous posts (in fact I will post an updated list in this post) and look at the disaster that place has turned into, and for some reason people want to go after CC in this community cause it is an easy target, while ignoring the disaster that is Magical Noncasting.

Bring in a new person or multiple people at different times for Wave 100 mornings (gone)

person from Sunny for Wave 100 midday (gone)

a new chick for 97X, comes in get DUI in station vehicle (gone)

lead for the morning show on Island 106, which helped the station tie PAP two books ago(gone)

Get rid of Talk Radio morning show that unexplainably did good in ratings, bring in someone without experience and pair him up with Magic Boys pal. On top of this mindnumbing move call the show "The Attack Machine 2.0" which as any telecom major in his freshman year at FSU will tell you is a brain dead move. Additionally, Joe Valentine muddles through a week of shows and all he does is tell people he doesn't want to be there and how controversial he is. Translation the show sucks. 2 days in they drop the name, "claiming no one like it on the old show." Really? No one liked it so you tried to use it? And failed? I know Dale reads this stuff and when he does respond he is usually a jerk about it, why is he so silent in this?

So to sum up, I hate magic and I have an ax to grind. This post will not last the day.

Oh yeah InternOutern,

Here are your options for Panama City -

1. Magical NonCasting - This company is a disaster and management is incompetent. With you have no experience two things could happen, you could become a host on 3 of the stations (Wave 100, Talk Radio 101, Island 106) and/or they will treat you like crap and try to break your spirit and you will never want to be in radio again.
2. Double Zero - They have multiple stations and 3 people, Scholar Brad shown the boor recently, Rob Stark, Brandon Andrew and Tori Shay. So maybe you could get on the air there pretty easy if you work for free. They have no websites, so you may have to go to the buildings to find out. I doubt they have a receptionist(probably promoted to 8 airshifts) so maybe you can start there.
3. The Devil's Clear Channel - People hate these stations, espcially on this board, because they are efficent and make money. Because of that they probably already have interns and you may have to work to get in the door there. But for that reason they are probably the best bet if you want a future in radio. The other options above have no future.
4. Gulf Coast Community College - They have radio stations and they have schooling, if you want to work in radio this is a good way to go also.

Best of luck,
Radio Dude

Thank you for the pointers, Radio Dude. I really like the stations of Magic Broadcasting. I don't see how it could be so bad there. As far as Double O, I guess I really have only heard about three local DJs on there stations. So I guess they could use an intern. And I what would be the bright points in working for Clearchannel? How many stations do each of these companies have?

Say, Radio Dude, should I get into TV instead? L0L

852radiodude,
You are right on target. There is so much History, most bad. Sorry about your obvious personal dealings but I doubt that you are alone. Some well intentioned advice, let it go, the bitterness from the past just spoils the present for you and some will relish your misery.

Panhandler,
Don't know your angle....were you a defense attorney for Kenneth Laye?

the Radio Dude makes radio seem like a suck-$hit world in Panama City... :-[

So who here is actually EMPLOYED by a radio company in Panama City? ???

Not cool!
My opinion is we all should all stop actiong like children and use our real names.
Personally RadioDude you are a coward, not that what you say may not have merit, but at least sign it.

I don't get your point. Kenneth Laye was convicted of doing illegal things. How possibly could you possibly take what I said and think I was defending something like that. That borders on slander.

Panhandler, no offense intended, rather a compliment. Mr. Laye's attorney took on an unwinnable case and did a very good job with what he had....this is not a legal court but the court of public opinion on radio matters. It seems from comments on this board that you are outnumbered in your opinion and I was just wishing you the very best of luck.

technically, it's libel, not slander. Slander is something that is an audible statement. Libel is in the written form.

And I really wish I could have been an intern to someone like Dale Griffin or Chris Berry. They seem like they are the life of any party. And Joe Valentine isn't so bad either. They all seem like they know the business. Dan seemed okay, he just was from the north. There's nothing wrong with that, unless someone can tell that you are not from this area. He couldn't couldn't disguise his northern heritage to the point that he was obnoxious. But I won't dismiss that he was probably a very talented individual. I like 97x as well. There's three guys that play off of each other and are all seeming like they have so much fun doing so. No real feelings about Wave 100 or ESPN... except ESPN has a really crappy signal.

i work for B-95.1, and we're changing some things this year. Stop by Bay Point, maybe you can become an intern at the 'B'!

I apologize for jumping back at you. I believe if you don't something nice to say, there's no need to say it. I've worked for Tom and Kim and they've been very nice - and I've read some stuff on here that I believe is "libel" and I would defend them because I've worked with them.

With that said, I believe the success of their stations over the 15 or so years they spent in Panama City speaks for itself. If I were the competition, I would be very happy that Tom and Kim are not currently involved in broadcasting.

Despite record profits, CC refuses to replace departing talent, resulting in yet another studio dedicated to voicetracking for the three on-air folks remaining.

CC decides to admit the obvious, and switches to religious on Sunny.

A good 80's station still won't become a reality.

ATC will use a jazz tune as background, and the WKGC Station Manager collapses in an apoplectic fit. Oh, and they still won't update their website from the 1997 version.

Harley (who is awesome) will be heard in every commercial airing on every station in town, because the rest of the talent (except one) at CC is tracking 20 shifts on the other stations.

Wooten will continue to be the man.

One more year of the same old boredom will populate the PC airwaves.

Another lame clear channel rant that fails to look at the disease in the market, Magical Noncasting.

Hey, I mentioned WKGC. :D

I am the wife of CCENG, aka Jennifer, and I spent 15 years toiling in the field (mostly as a PD) and railing against the way corporations were killing radio in the late 80's-early 90's. It is hell living through change...
The truth of the matter is that radio has met Darwin - the strong survive, both in terms of corporations and personalities. The Big Boys need talent so the smart ones give the local groups a chance to nurture it. Good talent thrives and is rewarded and dreck mostly never gets on the air unless Daddy owns the AM frequency...
I am going to miss CC as a publicly-held company. They pretty much ran things the way I would if it were mine.

Magic NonCasting will continue to be an organazation of no consequence ran by a bunch of no talent folks. We could start a whole thread on the things they have done in the past 6 months alone.

Charlie --- why hasn't anyone from CC posted on 101's board suggesting they listen to one of your stations?
Alls fair in love and war, right? Boy, from several posts on here from Magic and Jo's post, you'd think they'd
be he highest rated stations on the planet. Nothing like a lot of false egos to self elevate a pile of dung.

No attitudes...back in the day...but, ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!we all shoulda had huge egos ---
Flashback:
The days of a four hour morning shift --- and a 21 share --- and hot women and cold beer
on the beach === now that's success. But who's bragging, circa low to mid 80's/////PCB.
No nasty trash talkin' websites, just white sand, sunshine and need I say more....

Where have all the cool radio people gone that cared about those who gave them their success???

Honestly Tibbs, we are all too busy.....I (for one) am really busy, it is deer season and the bucks are in rut....I try to hunt at least 2 weekdays a week (plus ALL weekend)....all that will end in mid February when the season ends....(pause...to spit my Redman) ....I know the PAP crew is busy getting ready for the annual St Jude Radiothon.....AND I don't want to jinx the book results (which will be out the first week of Feb) by making some smart ass remark on another station's website ;)

Charlie: ya know I am just playin' --- seriously, it is amazing to see those comments from Jo posted on
a radio website. No reason to worry about jinxing anything... sometimes it's just more fun to sit back
and watch it all unravel from a distance. Dale, I agree, the highroad is best. My comment was based
on the fact that someone from 101 would certainly edit and/or remove alot of that banter if they
were aware of it (or cared.) Somehow, a comment to listen to another competitor always seems to
be noticed when little else is.
