PREDICTIONS!!! YEAH!!!

Let's start with the wild speculation and accusation since the KIRO thing is the most interesting thing to happen in Seattle since...well, a long time!

Here we go;

Once KIRO is on 97.3, KTTH will be heard on 97.3 HD (soon) and they'll probably do special Mariners programming on the other HD too.

KOMO will fall because of KIRO's new FM presence with young listeners. OR they could move to KPLZ? Maybe merge KOMO and KVI programming into a new FM version to keep up? And sell KOMO and KVI to the scrap dealer since "there's copper in them transmitter thingies"!

Someone else will soon start up a news or talk on FM soon in the area to maybe to move off AM or compete with KIRO, whatever.

Another FM in the area will also change formats as a result of oldies leaving the FM and my guess is; the multi formatted wonder at 96.5 (31 formats and call letters since 1960 and counting or something like that). After all KBSG was above KJAQ when they exited the scene.
Hint: even KZOK is hotter than KBSG and they be oldies too, matey!

Warm will do even hotter AC since that has REALLY worked well for them in the last 2 years (ha ha hee hee).

Fisher will sell off radio and get out while the boat is still above water (unlike the name they don't do well under water)

And let's see, someone will create a station so compelling that it will make you talk about what you heard the next day instead of something like "they were off the air yesterday at 2am, duuuuuuuuuude!"

Methinks you're probably right on the money except for what happens to KPLZ and KJAQ.

Star still bills really well so it would be foolish to kill that off to put two substandard AM formats on FM. Once Fisher deals those stations, however all bets are off.

As for oldies on Jack - CBS is in selling mode right now and they're likely not wanting to have to hire a new airstaff for a station that has none currently. Plus - as you said - KZOK's oldies as well - so why make a clustermate into a direct competitor?

Parting thought: If the RIAA does get a bill passed to require radio to pay performance rights (like streaming stations do now) - you'll start to see a LOT of stations go to spoken word programming. And the possibility of that bill passing could also have been behind Bonneville's decision to pull the plug on KBSG.

I believe the stations already pay monthly fees to BMI, ASCAP and SESAC for performance rights.

"Yes they do. The newly proposed performance royalty would go to the RIAA, not the composers."

Very interesting. If that happens, radio stations need to turn around and charge them for each play, you know....sort of a "payola". No pay...we no play...lol
