Probably Never Going To Happen But Nassau Should...

Nassau should move 99.9 The Hawk into Trenton New Jersey, where the old Hawk Was.

they should change it to Classic Rock instead of Classic Hits, or leave it the same, either way.

this would actually make sense, because nassau launched Frank-FM, and it covers just about the same area, so 99.9 and 107.5 are just competing against eachother, and theyre owned by the same company, so it would make sense for them to move 99.9 to Trenton, so it can serve trenton, burlington and philadelphia. just like 97.5 did, also it would be AWSOME if they would put the free beer and hotwings show on as well.

and if im not mistaken, the move will not interfere with any other channel (not that i know of at least), also, people will still be able to receive the station in Allentown. so this way, everybody wins.

this idea, just dawned on me.

what do you guys think?

What do I think? I think the Hawk will stay dead just like Calvert Deforest.

Let go, it's over.

(a) Nassau doesn't like your first sentence. Frank-FM is a Berks County station, regardless of where its signal travels. Frank-FM is Reading, Reading, Reading. Every liner says "Reading." Frank-FM is on the air to square-off with WRFY (one of the few times I'll support and listen to a Clear Channel station over a smaller company doing the same format - can Frank-FM be any more boring and uninteresting to listen to?!)

(b) Trenton - even as a #130-something market between Philadelphia and NYC - deserves better than a satellite show from lower Michigan.

(c) 97.5 The Hawk is GONE! GET OVER IT!

and if im not mistaken, the move will not interfere with any other channel (not that i know of at least), also, people will still be able to receive the station in Allentown. so this way, everybody wins.

Can't and won't happen.

- WJRZ-FM is on 100.1 in Ocean County. 99.9/Trenton would have to have a significant null to the SW.

- 50kw 99.5 WJBR-FM is down to its south (I don't know what pre-'60s rights WODE has). 99.9/Trenton would need some type of null towards its south.

- 50kw 100.3 WPHI is right in Philadelphia. 99.9/Trenton would need a severe null towards its south again.

- 99.9 in Trenton would interfere with 89.1 WWFM/Trenton (89.1 + 10.8 = 99.9).

If WODE could move further into Trenton, it would be with such a significant directional signal that they probably wouldn't gain any coverage into Trenton or Philadelphia.

Why would you want such a thing anyway? I can't even imagine anyone missing that station. Radio's answer to vanilla (no offense to vanilla).

Nassau's programming of their McRadio stations is so formulaic and boring that I can't imagine anyone clamoring to listen to them! Nassau has so many other classic rock stations that are programmed exactly the same that it's not even funny. As a move-in to Philly, 97.5 had no chance to compete in a major market with a voice-tracked, extra safe and boring format like "the Hawk". Or "Frank" for that matter.

Having seen (and heard) what Nassau did with its new acquisitions in New Hampshire, I must say that I am not impressed. They were consolidated and given single word "positioners" that supposedly describe their respective formats. Let's see, now there are:

-2 "Hawks" (Laconia, Concord);

- a "Wolf" (Belmont) that sounds just like the "Wolf" in Portland and the "Wolf" in White River Jct;

- 2 "Greatest Hits" stations that were 2 formerly independent oldies stations which are now 2 identical BORING classic hits outlets (Belmont and Concord); and,

- a "Frank" (Nashua) that sounds just like "Frank" in Portland, "Frank" in Montpelier, and "Frank" in Reading.

Even the logos look the same. http://www.933thewolf.com/ http://www.999thewolf.com/ It's like "pick animal, draw up generic logo, insert frequency here.." How dull and homogenized - and the programming is equally *original*.

Pity the people in smaller markets like Concord and Portland who once had locally programmed stations and are now stuck with this dreck. And, be glad that Nassau realized that small market thinking would not stand a chance in a place like Philly.

Good riddance to the "the Hawk"!

99.9 Trenton would not fit Class B to B with WWFG 99.9 Ocean City, Md (formerly 100KHI).

when do you guys predict mgk will be another hip-hop & rnb channel...

if there was a poll, i would be all for turning mgk into rap. just to kill the format alltogether in the area, and let MMR rule all.

Come on, Frank is as boring as it gets!! A "great" station is voice tracked? Yeah, right. Not to mention the extra safe playlist. Yawn! It's about as entertaining as Wonder Bread. :D

WMGK is fine, it doesn't need some plastic name like "Eagle" to make it sound as if it belongs in Cedar Rapids or Burlington. As for going hip hop, ain't gonna happen - I think Philly has enough such stations.

In fact, CCU really missed the banana boat with 104.5; they should have taken it alternative or active rock. Now it's just a waste of electricity that serves out-of-market audiences in places like Reading and Allentown.

MGK is a horrible classic Rock station, but it would make good for classic HITS, frank and hawk99.9 (especially 99.9) sound more classic rock than mgk

I agree that MGK is fine, but I just think it needs to start adding some stuff from the 80's in there. I am not saying stuff like Madonna and that crap. I mean like some of the more popular rock songs from the 80's. The Outfield's "Your Love" for exapmple...

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that WMGK is a 'great' station - it's just OK. But it IS much better than any of Nassau's bland classic hits stations, no whether they're named "Frank" or "Hawk" or "Eagle" or "Pigeon".

All things are relative, you know.

You mean "you knew wthk was better than wmgk". Because obviously Greater Media didn't think as much to warrant flipping 102.9 off...

Your case is worse than some dude who can't get over the fact his ex-girlfriend is happier with someone else.

You mean "he thinks wthk was better than wmgk". People have all sorts of oddball ideas about things. Some still think that FOX's "Alien Autopsy" really happened too. Others believe that Geraldo Rivera is a real journalist.

But, this particular decision wasn't even that close for Greater Media. Gee, a successful classic rocker versus an underperforming (and BORING) rimshot - hmmmm, what to do?

thats b/c 102.9 was there first, so they didnt want to take their own channel off, thats obvious, also, the station wouldnt be the same anymore with GM owning it. and 90% of the hawk fans said they would not make the switch to 102.9

Did you poll all 20 of these listeners? And thanks for stating the obvious. Of course your station lost out to one with a better track record than some cookie-cutter "Hawk" persona.

Nice argument, you lose.

BULL SHIT!

the hawk was the 2nd most listened to station in Bucks County, And Trenton, so dont even go there, they had a hell of a lot more listeners than 20, and they knew how to rock!

the only station that had more listeners than the hawk was WPST, and would ya look at that...They're both owned by Nassau, hmm...but somehow nassau sucks and the hawk sucked? interesting, too bad for you, that its just the opposite, the only thing GM has thats worth a shit now is WMMR, which clear channel owned originally, and if clear channel didnt own them first, i would hate wmmr just like all of their other shit.

Of course 94.5 and 97.5 were 1 and 2 in Trenton and Bucks. They are 50,000 watt flamethrowers located there, not in Philly. If it were the other way around, and 102.9's stick was located there, their Trenton ratings would be great too. Just because they were #2 doesn't mean they were great.

doesnt mean they were bad either, it aint the music i hate on 102.9, its THEM

oh, and i need to fix something, i was suppose to put "Metro Media" when i was talking about WMMR, not "Clear Channel"
