Program about New York Radio Sunday 4PM - 6 PM on WABC

David Hinckley reported in todays Daily News that Michale Harrison former WNEW-FM morning host and now publisher of Talkers Magazine will discuss the past, present and future of New York Radio Sunday at 4 PM on WABC. I will try to check it out.

and 10 years ago a certin dentist took to the airwaves of WABC to do a live show about radio on labor day weekend i think ;D

Not sure I'll have the chance to check it out, but if I could I'd ask Michael Harrison about a topic I've raised on these threads several times, the lack of local talk radio in New York. As has been noted, markets 2 through 4 (LA, Chicago, SF) and smaller have strong commitments to local talk. In NY, the #1 market, it's virtually non-existent. For a world-class market, NY has talk radio that sounds more like market #200.

From these threads, the biggest reason for this is that the biggest names in NY talk radio are now deceased or retired. In NY, Madison Ave ad agencies will only pay for top drawer talent (Beck, Rush & Sean). It seems there is no local talent that would command an audience advertisers would pay for.

As the publisher of Talkers Magazine, I think Michael Harrison would have the answer to this question. I hope the show will be made available via podcast.

The only NY station I listen to consistently is WFAN, occaisionally WCBS-AM. If I weren't a sports fan, I wouldn't listen to radio at all. :)

Had to be Memorial Day Weekend - the "WABC Rewound" post-game show...

I was so disappointed in this show that I turned it off at 4:45 PM. Its intended audience seem to be casual listeners who may not remember Herb Oscar Anderson. I think the discussions on radio message boards are more stimulating than this show.

Glad I missed it! Apparently nothing new or informative was discussed. Just more of the same!

I grew up with New York radio and always thought it was the best in the country. No longer true! :)
