PROJECT: 98.5 FM ATs

A walk down memory lane to run across this link today. As Slick Rick Nettles I had a couple of stints on 98YCR and, forgotten from the late 80's, the Adult Rock "Y98" before going back to the YCR format.

In the mid-70's one prominent personality missing is Leonard Roberts who worked at WSBA for a number of years before returning to the Baltimore market at WTTR and others.

Did not see any mention of Joe Columbo in the link. Joe was our big hire/promotional spash in 1981 (I moved to nights, from mornings, following Captain John Lawrence).

Alot of parttimers through the years from the communications program at York College...Dennis Sheely, Dave Raymond and so many others.

I remember Dave Jackson from his days at WCBG. He was a natural. My girlfriends and I would call the station just to chat with him. Whatever happened to him? I don't think he's at WGET any longer, and I sure do miss his voice. :(

We're talking 2 different Dave Jacksons! The Dave Jackson who worked at WCBG in the 70's was Chambersburg native Dave Bowders, who later worked at WFEC and WYCR as Dennis Mitchell. He did have a great voice. We worked together at WCBG and were good friends, but I completely lost track of him about 20 years ago.

The Dave Jackson who worked at WGET for many years was a Ship. U. WSYC college radio friend named Lou Sordon. He was PD at GET until very recently when they changed their format to sports talk. Also an excellent air personality with a great voice. I wish him well in finding a new gig. What a business....

Slick Rick, - Leonard was Jim Tucker on 98YCR in the mid 70's. Jim Tucker had one of the most unique deliveries. Long pauses and quick catch-up. Very dramatic at times.

They had their bumper sticker contest at that time and you could be a big cash winner. I was one of the winners of CASH! $9.85

Not that I know of. Dave "Dennis Mitchell" Bowders was quite a character! He was a good friend, introduced me to a woman I dated for a couple of years and sold me a Ford Falcon I drove for a couple of years. He was a "Jack-of-Many-Trades" kind of guy who worked in a number of other fields, most involving some kind of sales. In the mid 80's he got married, had kids, moved a couple of times, and I lost track of him. Dave, are you out there??

Ray, was this the same Dennis Mitchell that worked at ZIX?

We did have a "Mitchell" at WZIX for a while, but it wasn't Dennis Mitchell and it definitely wasn't Dave Bowders. The name DAN Mitchell comes to mind. John Summers...help me out on this one...my memory is a bit fuzzy...thanks!

Your memory is not so fuzzy as you may think Ray. It was indeed Dan Mitchell, who was with us for a while on WZIX before Sebastian Kane was hired. I made up the name. His real name was Dave Zingle. Haven't thought about him in decades. I don't know what ever happened to him but he didn't work at any other Central PA radio stations of which I am aware.

Did Sebastian Kane go on to be a consultant?

Yes he did, using the name Jason Kane, and specializing in the Country format. When I last heard of him he was in Austin Texas. Ironically, he consulted for the former owners of WZIX when they owned a Country station in Miami. Sebastian was one great jock. He had one of those voices - not a big or deep voice but one that just sounded right on the radio. Real nice guy too.

Just an update for those who want to know, Jason "Sebastian" Kane is now the Managing Director of Entertainment for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, which despite the name is also a large entertainment and sports venue. Radio's loss...

Circa 1978-1979, The salesrific Captain John Lawrence in mornings, suave Mark Richards midddays, The Gary Michaels Program afternoons (that deserves a "Gary Michaels Salute"), and the always running late JJ Randolph rocked the evenings. Brad Kindig left the farm chores to do news while Paul "okey dokey" Douglas guessed at Total Weather forecasts. A parttimer from Temple U. named RJ Heim provided the staff with a wonderful collection of pirated jingles and far away air check material. The air staff frequented the Hanover Pizza Hut "Grog Shop" following appearances at stock care races and other charity events. Ahhh, the good ole days!
