Promoting Satellite radio...

I'm constantly hearing advertisements by Best Buy, etc. who use portions of their :60 to promote satellite radios.

Besides the obvious answer of $$$$$, why would radio allow satellite radio to be featured in an ad? I think this is absolutely nuts. What are your thoughts?

Mixed emotions. On the one hand it's no different than an AM station running an ad for AM/FM Stereo car radios, or CD players for that matter. But again, it is a competing service.

why not..the only people that care are the three employees of the station. the audience doesnt care :)..they aint listning for those 3-6 minutes anyway..which btw..if they had sattelite radio they wouldnt have to hear!! because their are no commercials!! :)..i told a guy at work yesterday about sat radio..he thought it was just 100 actual radio stations..he said he didnt like radio..i told him their were no commercials and their were 67 commercial free formats..he just ordered it :)..what i loove is clear channel. they play an xm commercial..then the next spot is an anti sat radio spot :)

I would refuse ads from:

(1) The state lottery (because gambling is a sin)
(2) Casinos
(3) Cable / satellite TV - all but Dominion Sky Angel have porn channels available
(4) Satellite radio - XM has Opie and Anthony, Sirius has Howard Stern

If its all about $$$, then run them all. If you care about scriptural integrity and consider yourself a ministry, you exercise discretion.

Sirius also has Spirit and other CCM programmed channels.

If you focus on the negative...then most certainly, you will see it everywhere. EVERYWHERE. Better start reading the labels on every single product you buy to see who is associated with who. You would be suprised what you are spending your money on.

Cable TV has alot of positives as well. If you don't want the porn...don't order it. You can't throw out the baby with the bath water.

B.Dalton Carries porn. But they're also one of the nation's biggest Bible retailers.

Again, the medium isn't the sin. How you use them is how you're held responsible.

But that's a rabbit trail.

Better refuse ads from Dell & HP, they can get porno too! And if gambling is a sin, drinking must be too (I'm sure it says they are both sins in the bible:).

V.I. Lenin famously said that the capitalist would sell the rope that would be used to hang him.

"V.I. Lenin famously said that the capitalist would sell the rope that would be used to hang him."

Quote came from http://www.enterstageright.com/archive/articles/0600biting.htm

I'm just kidding around here!! :) I had remembered this quote from a college class I took. Don't slam me - I'm just teasing here!!

We certainly know that absolutely no members of "the only true church" play the lottery. I'm not aware that there's a verse in the Bible (legalistic interpretaion)that says "Thou shalt not touch one drop of alcohol" (please spare me the "Jesus turned the water into Welch's Frozen Grape Dirnk" nonsense.)You'd think Jesus only died on the cross to institute social prohibitions. Law trumps love every time.<P ID="signature">______________

Who do you trust for financial security? Jesus Christ or random chance? Surely - you would tithe on the lottery winnings. Or would you? Do you pray to win the lottery? Do you pray before making the purchase?

So you think you can drink, huh?! OK - go out to Chilis tonight, down a beer or two. Who do you hope doesn't see you? Anybody from your church, that is who. Why? Because your witness is shot if you are seen drinking. Why should you worry about that? Because the weaker brother IS going to stumble and fall. I can tell you honestly - I heard about it from my listeners when the husband of the station owner's daughter was seen buying a case of beer at 7-11. People were turned off by that when they saw it.

What logical, beneficial purpose is served by drinking alcohol? Loosens up social situations? I'm myself with the help of the Holy Spirit at all times - no chemical or liquid is going to tell me what to do. And I never ever ever have to worry about being too impaired to drive. Does it genuinely taste good? The few times I have tried it, it tastes like paint thinner smells. Beer tastes exactly like rotted barley water, which it is. No taste benefit there. is it something the body needs to survive? NO - it is detrimental to the body. So why again do you want to drink? I'm waiting for a logical, beneficial, scripturally sound reason.

Just because the verse isn't explicit in the Bible, it doesn't mean the principle isn't there. There is also no verse banning abortion, but all know the principles involved there. Don't be a simple-minded baby Christian milk- slurper. Get to some spiritual meat and get serious about the Word of God!

Who says the husband of the station owner's daughter wasn't planning to make beer bread?
My brother in law has done that before and it was Mm-mm good.

First, I don't play the lottery. At the same time I don't see the problem if someone buys a lottery ticket instead of a movie ticket with discretionary income. I very seldom drink, but don't rule it out. I actually wouldn't worry about someone from my church seeing me have a drink at Chili's but then again, it's not a fundamentalist church..I know..like I've always heard on the radio..LIBERAL CHURCH THAT DON'T PREACH THE WORD OF GOD!!) No, I can't give you chapter and verse to tell you why it's OK to doen a cold one now and then, but I also don't read the Bible as though I was reading sections of the Ohio Revised Code.

I can tiethis back to radio..I heard a guy actually say on the radio just yesterday."If the King James version was good enough for Peter and Paul, it ought to be good enough for you". As if the English language, let alone the KJV, existed then. <P ID="signature">______________

Could be instead of "making my brother stumble" I can show them Christianity isn't all about rules, and that alcohol can be used responsibly. Those college binge-drinkers came from teetotaler homes!<P ID="signature">______________

Those KJV only types are BAD NEWS. I've tangled with them a couple of times - I felt really physically threatened like they were creepy stalkers or something. But then I've had anti-CCM types call and curse out my announcers, follow me home, etc. Same ilk --- not Christians at all. I understand, too, that the Kansas professor teaching the evolution class got beat up by some "Christians" that believed in creationism. Really "validates" their point of view ----

Now there are three groups I don't trust / don't think are really Christian:

(1) KJV onlyists
(2) anti-CCM / Christian rockists
(3) creationists

Re: Theology Board

Actually - I mentioned the husband of the station owner's daughter hurting my ratings in my post. If some fool gets on a tangent trying to justify their sin, its not my problem.
