Providence could welcome Whoopi Goldberg to Mornings.

http://yahoo.reuters.com/stocks/Quo...-05-09_05-32-18_N08310613&symbol=CCU.N&rpc=44 Talk about a Radio Shakeup. Just when you think that local stations are truly LOCAL in the morning, along comes another opportunity to get rid of Local talent again. Clear Channel has just hired Whoopi Goldberg for Mornings and will syndicate her nationally. Between the possibility of Stern on Pro-Fm and Whoopi on WSNE, I would say that Providence radio sure may change an awful lot in the next year. We shall see!John

Not much of a transition on WSNE if that happens. From a whoopee cushion to a Whoopi.

The Whoopie show would be great for SNE. And because she's Clear Channel, she can't cost nearly what the Coast Morning Crew costs SNE. Seems like a no-brainer to me!

How's Joni doing in Mornings? Does a change need to be made?

Regardless of what people may think of Joanie I think she delivers what her audience expects. The show itself may be pulled in different directions but that's another matter. I just don't see Whoopi on Coast, budgetary reasons or not,if Joanie's presence is generating ad dollars. Also,a couple of points that might not really affect the decision are(1)It's some sort of effort to bring women back to morning radio. That's already being done at Coast.(2)Whoopi is 5-9AM. If Delilah stays, that leaves 11 hours to fill before 8PM & it's 11 hours to fill with 2 jocks. A 3rd jock would almost have to be added, resulting in shorter shifts between 9AM & 8PM assuming Delilah stays. If the Coast morning show isn't meeting expectations,& I'm not saying it isn't,there are other things that can be done besides complete demolition. Going with Whoopi would be too much. I'm sure Clear Channel is going to use her on underperforming stations. Then again, complete demolition of shows hasn't been out of the question in the past on Oxford Street so what do I know?

This is my personal opinion. Providence radio is BORING. It's stale and it's about as unexciting as Radio gets. I'm planning a move to the West Coast in the fall anyway. So every transmitter in the state could blow up for all I care. However for the rest of your sakes..... I think it would be awfully nice to have some new programming hit the airwaves. Whoopie seems like she would be a nice fit for Coast.John

Delilah is 7-Midnight. The miidday show could be made 9-2 and afternoons 2-7.
My bad. I just checked & she's on now. Also Coast's bad since they have David O'Leary on their website from 3-8PM & Delilah at 8PM.

Premiere Signs Whoopi Goldberg. Comedienne/actress Whoopi Goldberg joins forces with Premiere Radio Networks to do a syndicated morning drive show (5:00 am to 9:00 am ET) aimed primarily at AC stations. The show begins its run July 31. I'll bet you that WSNE signs on. If not right away... then I think it will happen eventually. This one seems like a sure bet as far as I'm concerned. Corporate will give the order and WSNE Management will have no choice but to listen. This is my prediction.

Did anyone consider T.C to be replaced by Whoopie?B101 being a BIG HIT's station can bend that in any direction they please.Whoopie will show up in Providence I bet the house on that one Coast or the Bee.

Hey yeah... that's a possibility I didn't think of. B101 would be good. However Whoopi seems like she would be a 100 percent perfect fit for COAST! I think that's why in my mind it's already a done deal.

I think that's why in my mind it's already a done deal. Maybe I'm naive but I just don't see that happening. Joanie has a following & does a lot more for that station than the morning show. Coast sounds great the rest of the day too (until Delilah) but I can't see them giving up the localism in the morning. Whoopie isn't going to come to Providence for a blood drive or an Aids walk. Well maybe an Aids walk, but you know what I mean.

I don't think Radio Corporations care much about being Local anymore. Joanie could live at the station 24/7 and do every charity event in the city. But that's probably not going to matter much to some Fat Guy in a suit at Clear Channel who figures that Whoopi can probably equal or better Joanie's ratings all by using the FREE satellite Dish out back.
