Not directly related to this new survey, but a prediction nonetheless: Whoever winds up in the big chair on Old Kingston Pike won't have the luxury of pretending to be a class act.

My prediction: 60% of the population will not be accounted for.
85% of the stations surveyed will lack someone actually riding herd over the on-air staff.
1 station will continue to allow mindless chatter about coffee and coupon clipping in morning drive, while back announcing yet another hit from a failed Disney princess and giving the wrong song title.

Which is why we need a new format in this town. Something with back beat and rhythm, actual clocks, an air staff with some talent (not much, just some), and maybe, just maybe the desire to be on the air somewhere other than Knoxville.

In Chattanooga, an Urban station can stay alive and viable and make money. The area has enough afro centric businesses who buy ad time and mainstream media buyers will also buy time in crossover deals. A rhythmic might even do fine in that market.

AM 1580 is still cranking out programming for the African American demo. Mainly religious programming
