Pugs and Kelly fired from The Bone

You do have a good point Txchipk. It does make sense, but will it happen. Is the Fan 105.3 a big enough of a threat for Cumulus to make the switch.

I think the bigger threat at the moment for the Ticket, is that the AM band is dying. Not that I think the FM band is any better, but c'est la vie.

I hate to bust everybody's hump, but The Ticket will not move to 93.3 according to Jeff Catlin.

Well I'm sure if he was going to do it, he would tell anyone who asked.....Come on Dude.

BTW: Way to much though being put into Pugs and Kelly any way...

They Sued, They Sucked, SO LONG....
Let them go, just like 105.3 and 93.3 did. ;D

Okay so this seems like a dead topic but I thought I would reply to a couple of posts just because.

PandK_71 and Albert19X seem to have been at odds a little about did Pugs and Kelly sue 105.3 or not blah blah blah.

To my knowledge they did not/will not sue 105.3. Through hearsay from possible insiders, they felt their contract was being violated at 105.3. They came to the conclusion with the higher ups that they should be released from it and move on down the road. This scenario may be right or may be wrong as I am not saying it is correct but I am just saying what I heard.

They apparently did however file suit years ago against a previous station in their hometown of Chicago because of contract issues etc., maybe WLUP The Loop. I am not for certain of this either but I actually seem to remember them talking about it on their show a while back.

They also kind of made light about one of one these situations on their show the last week they were on while talking with Eric. Pugs said that when Eric walked out and left in a huff, like they had done before, he had left the best job he will ever have. Then Kelly told Pugs that he didn't know that was the case and Pugs then said that he was just trying to help Eric feel better since they had done something similar previously.

I like the P and K show, in small doses, and wish them success when they get a new job however it did get monotonous listening to them talk about the same things and do the same bits over and over. I only listened periodically in the end hoping to have not heard their current bit in a few months. Not sure they will have a chance in this mariket anytime soon but hopefully they will find a station somewhere that will tend to whatever it is they need to continue success. They are also fun to hang out with from time to time.

I am not saying all I have stated is true but it has not necessarily been a secret about what happened in either situation I mentioned. If I am however wrong about any of it I will have no problem admitting it if other information shows otherwise.

Oh yah, Ron and Don are on the air in Seattle now.

I liked P&K too and like you said in small doses. They did repeat a lot, but they made my mid-morning/afternoon go faster. The commercial breaks and teasing things they never got to killed me. That was always the stuff I wanted to hear. I wish them well too. I hope they can find something in this market.

STAY HARD P&K!!!

Since Ron and Don keep coming up in this thread for some weird reason, I decided to a do a little research.

The gig they originally went to fired them like in 2003. Then they went to a station in New Orleans and got fired sometime in 2004.

They seemingly went back to Seattle then and are on an AM news station?

Anyone have any more information on them? Did they have any more stops in there along the way? I don't really care, their show sucked but I was curious after seeing their name over and over.

as for P&K, I used to love their show. When they first got on 105.3 and were on overnights and had no oversight and could do whatever they wanted the show was awesome. Then they moved to mid-days and of course P&Ds have to justify their salaries and more and more restrictions were put on them, more and more sponsor pushing at every turn.. more and more having to have a bit planned for every gdamn segment with no carry over ever.

I could not even listen to the show at the end on 105.3 it was a mess. I never did listen to them on the Bone but I wish them well. I had some good times listening to them for several years. I think Gavin is the one who did the most damage. McNeil jacked around a bit, but he was more concerned with other stuff so did not really care. Gavin was and is a freak and he just ran the show and the station into the ground.

it is hard for me to judge if P&K also became less entertaining in that time, simply because the flow of the show that worked so well for them initially, was blown up as they were chunked into formulaic bite size pieces that are apparently easier for us masses to consume.

The Bone Does Top 40?

Thought I would mention it because there is probably nobody listening. ::) It appears that 93.3 is auditioning people on the air after 7pm. I caught Kaden(former night guy at Movin 107.5 ) the other night and the next night was another CHR sounding jock. Seeing how Cumulus has done away with live local jocks at night, these guys must be going for mornings or pm drive. Could this be a sign of a flip or are they thinking that a top 40 delivery is the new big thing in classic rock radio? :D

I never didn't like there show but as I mentioned previously, it got very repetitive and I would have to turn it off frequently. I get you about the formatting of the P and K show. Being repetitive and having to make changes due to themselves, sponsors, Gavin or whomevern never allowed it to maintain a strong hold again after about a year in afternoons. I do agree that there overnight show was a lot better. I guess broadcasting via broadband from a basement in the Chicago area makes for better radio from those two.

Ron and Don were on in Flint, Michigan for a while a few years back. Not sure how long they were on there but I think they may have actually been on and released from two separate stations while up there. This gig they have in Seattle is actually an FM News Talk radio station. I am not sure but they may have possibly started on the AM side sister station for their current company. This gig is likely the longest they have had since being released from 105.3.

P&K got their 105.3 gig from their lawsuit back in '99, which you can google for the details.

If you listened to the station back when it was called "The Talk that Rocks Texas", P&K had a crappy graveyard gig with no listeners. I actually enjoyed their show when they came on after Howard Stern, which is how they got most of their ratings. The shows was good back then and 105.3 peaked in that period. This was before the Janet Jackson thing, around '03 is when it peaked. Howard Stern was still good on free radio, P&K were enjoyable with Sybil, Russ Martin was still a fresh and somewhat original show, Tom Leykis was his absolute best in '03, Loveline was still really good with Adam Corolla. Everything seemed to click back then. Shows like Leykis were much edgier and hysterical... Suddenly, everything started becoming repetitive and stale. Not just because of the Janet Jackson Super Bowl thing, although it started going downhill after that debacle
