PULSE 87...GET OUT TO CLUB EXIT on Sat 10/31

I'm just going to repost what I wrote on the other board....

For me, this has been a roller coaster ride.

The next couple hours of Pulse 87 (WNYZ) are uncertain in terms of whether the station can exist or if it goes off the air after October 30th.

However in either case, we are telling EVERYONE in the dance music community and Pulse 87 listeners to get out to Club Exit, 147 Greenpoint Avenue, Brooklyn on Saturday, October 31st, since Pulse 87 has their Saturday Night Dance Party scheduled there.

Here's how it will go.....

If Pulse 87 DOES remain on the air past October 30th, then it's a celebration...party as usual, especially this being Halloween!

If Pulse 87 DOES NOT remain on the air past October 30th, then this event will also serve as a "thank you" to all of the personalities, staff and management that have worked that station throughout the 20 months of their existence.

If it is the latter, then it must be known that it was financial difficulties that ended Pulse 87, and NOT because of the dance music format.

Besides, if you guys here EVER wanted to know what I look like, then come on out! I think I'm dressing normal....that may be scary enough! lol

Thank you,

It's at least reassuring to know that the station is getting a proper sendoff - something that doesn't happen too often in NYC radio these days. Here's to hoping dance music resurfaces with the backing of a more financially stable company. (And preferably on a station higher on the dial with a stronger signal.)

The "Bankruptcy Ballroom" was booked this weekend...

DToTheJ. I'll joke at your sarcasm at times. But this is a case where something like this is not necessary and is very mean-spirited.

You don't like dance music, we get it. This isn't about you OR me. This is about getting the fans of the music together and getting the coalition to act on getting something new on the New York FM dial.

But thanks for showing your "colors" though. I want dance music fans to see the "hate" out there because if they don't know it exists, they will now!

I wish the best for you dance fans. I know what it's like to lose your favorite station. Getting it 'back' online or an HD2 channel just ISN'T the same.

I went last night to Club Exit. PACKED!!!! Even the owner couldn't believe it! :)

There was a lot of "love" for Pulse 87 during these past twenty months! People may have been sad and upset, but it did NOT show last night! People just wanted to have fun and dance, and this is what it was all about. Add to the fact it was Halloween, the party quotient picked up another step as you saw HOTTIE ;D nurses, cops, French maids, referees (oh yeah, guys were in costume too, lol). And that floor, I swear at times I could NOT walk through! :) It was JAM PACKED!

It appeared that everyone had a GREAT time that night! There were people feeling bad about what happened with Pulse 87 yet they came out to have one "last dance" of Pulse!

I could not have been any prouder of our dance music community :)

If the floor was packed to the rim, that means the dance community came out in full attendance. Now if only some had recorded that event on camera and showed that to the corporate radio companies, This might open a door or two for a format flip.

Who know what will happen in the weeks to come.

You probably shouldn't depend on TV stations, etc., to cover this kind of stuff, especially on the weekend. Their resources are slim these days too, with lots of TV stations making reporters shoot and edit their own video in addition to being on camera and reporting. (Not sure if that's happening a lot in this market but it sure is in others.)

You may have to BE the media. Two words: video camera!

Shoot video of the jam-packed crowd, do some slick editing, post it on YouTube et al, circulate it virally. In a case like this, maybe Tony Santiago should be an **on-camera** spokesperson for the New York Dance Music Coalition! Then direct the corporate execs to view the evidence.

It's easy to spot missed opportunities in the rear-view mirror, I know. I'm saying this not to be critical, but to suggest more ideas for the next time there's a chance to document and demonstrate the passion for the cause. Then again, quite possibly someone does have some video footage of Saturday night. Anybody?? This could still be done.
