Pulse 87 is now seeking financial support to stay alive!

The announcement was just made that they'll be gone within a week if they cannot come up with sufficient funds.... They provided a # if anyone wants to donate (877-821-8787). Surely, I'm gonna do what I can. at this point, dance fans.... if you want them to stay alive then please do what you can.

This is a joke right??? What did the promo sound like? "Attention fistpumpers, send us the cash you were gonna use for over priced bottle service, or else!!!"

LOL... but no, borasio came on in a very serious, somber and deep tone explaining that mgmt's now at the point where they have to pull the plug if they cannot get serious help. lucas prata called in, every mic break began so far with reiterating that this isn't a joke. you can hear his fear/worry in his voice.

I feel horrible for the die-hard fans that love the station they'll donate in hopes to keep the station alive & will lose the station in a couple of months anyways while mega media's CEO will be basking in the sun with all the money P1's have donated & employees are out of work.

WBAI and WFME and many public radio stations survive on donations. Pulse 87 could also do that.
I wonder if I should sell my Mega Media shares and donate the profit to Pulse 87, or will that hurt the company more.

Unless some sort of miracle happens, I think Pulse is done.
It's much easier and economical to run an infomercial/brokered time mill than a music format.

You just sell blocks of time and maintain a transmission plant to run a brokered format. From all of the pirates, and squawking from minority groups, there is quite a demand for this sort of programming.
A music format requires staffing, advertising sales, promotion, overhead, etc. Those are high hurdles to overcome in this market.

I wish Pulse the best of luck, and hope they overcome their financial woes...but I think a few people will be looking for a new station to put on their #1 preset.

I think they tried the brokered programming route with the Russian from 2006-2008, and Pulse 87 is bringing more revenue, especially after Arbitron started rating it with the other stations.

Not surprised at this chain of events for Pulse. I predicted this before the station came on air and after see and thoroughly reading the annual reports my prediction was backed by hard data.

I am sure decisions have already been made as to what they are going to do, however my bet is with one already said...time to cash out and this donation drive is the way to do it.

People that understand business know "what's up"...the drive is their bailout, but the end is the same result.

Keep in mind if you start off half cocked you can never fire your weapon, Pulse was never fired because of this. They will go down simply because of a bad business model...happens all the time and in this horrific economy it is not unexpected.

It is generating a lot more revenue since Arbitron started publicly rating it, as I said before. Mega Media was already in serious debt before Pulse 87 launched. I'm donating hundreds to the radio station, plus I'm holding on to my MMDA shares, and I will lose my money if Pulse goes down, or I will make a big profit if it survives this week. But it's a better gamble than any game in Atlantic City. If I lose my money and my Pulse, then I just won't gamble at the DJ Expo next month, I'd rather have Mega Media get my money than Donald Trump.

It really is ashame that this station is heading for disaster..It will be said that a dance station can't work Blah blah blah.when in reality the position on the dial is the real reason this station is dying...if Pulse had a different spot and had the money the big stations have for promotions this wouldn't be happening. I do agree with PSA man , however, I think Pulse is not leaving us this week ..I think the date they go under is already know and the powers will take the donated money and run...the station is fantastic but this is radio

I love Dance radio, but am I the only person whose digusted with how unprofessional Mega Media is handling all this?
Newsflash: Pulse 87 is NOT a non-commercial/non-profit radio station. This is NOT Seattle's C-89.5 Seattle, a Dance station broadcasting out of a high school, that has drives/pledges annually. This is no NPR radio ether. No, this is a radio station that airs commercials. As such, you can't have it both ways - you can't ask your listeners for money and at the same time try to make a profit from advertisers.

I don't think management at Mega Media will take the listener's bailout money and run, as they are committed to dance music on the radio. Yes, the signal and frequency are the reason why the ratings are bad, not the current dance format. I can bet that dance will make more money than classical on the 105.9 signal. Even Seattle has enough support for a dance station from its listeners. If this works, maybe WNYZ could go non-commercial.

Thanks to this, I have now learned why people donate hundreds to PBS, NPR, WFME, WBAI, as I have donated hundreds to Mega Media both in stocks and directly to Pulse 87's radiothon.

The haters are gonna say whatever, they really know the dance format does work in NYC and the numbers have proved them wrong, but they are still gonna say "I told you so" and a bunch of other comments. I just made my $100 donation via phone and hope all other dance fans can support Pulse 87 and keep the home of dance music

If we had a company start a dance station that was in solid financial shape, it would survive in NYC.
This radiothon sounds nothing like those boring pledge drives on PBS

You also gotta think facts too, CHRles and PSA_MAN did bring up good points. Pulse is not broadcasting from a high school, and Pulse is getting funds from ad's, especially their number ONE customers from ads like "thicker and wider" and "do you want to own a brand new computer" however recently, they did have support from nightclubs and lounges as for C 89.5, they really dont have these options. Now as far as PSA_MAN goes, it's true what CEO's and upper mgmt can do. I'm not saying they are gonna take the money and bust to the Bahamas, but who's to say that if they do get the funds, they can still give the big FU and jet. Pulse can always flip to CHR since the CHR format is a "moneymaker" :D

No one's going to listen to a CHR station with static on 87.7 when they can hear it static free on NOW and Z100.
