Pulse 87 launched at midnight...and they're calling themselves "NEW YORKS NEW DANCE MUSIC AUTHORITY"
 
songs I've heard in the last hour.....IMO they should add more currents and less Justin Timberlake/Kelly Clarkson remixes

Sounds like they are catering to the market well... Its like the old KTU without the Disco.... I hope they stream soon. Anyone know if there is a backdoor link anywhere?
 
They dont sound like anything KTU did... Ive heard more currents since Pulse has been on than KTU added in one year during their "hey day"...

Cartman: Robyn who sings "With Every Heartbeat" is not the same as Robin S who sang "Show Me love"
 
well of course you're hearing more currents on a station with no ratings and no signal,what do they have to lose? the stakes were and are "just a little higher"(lol)on a station with millions of listeners like KTU; ad dollars etc, all the factors that concern a real radio station
 
yeah yeah... enough of your negative rants. We get it, you dont think a station playing currents will work (unless they play one of your songs)... can u please keep your "glass half empty" opinions out of these threads? Let us enjoy the launch
 
Jimmy chill out man Joel is a smart guy and my experience with him is that he does not play the clique game that may have existed previously. We should be happy it is full time and has a decent signal. Just a guess here but I think it is a soft launch as the site has nto changed yet to get the kinks out and see how it sound. This is not based on anything but a hunch.
 
no where am I attacking the station or anyone involved; I'm speaking about the realities of the moment; this is supposed to be a discussion board, not the pep rally that a few of these dancing queens seem to insist that we all participate in,and yes, it's well known that i'm gay, so that is hardly a homophobic statement,girls....
 
well, that must have been some real BAD karma that has brought the US dance radio biz to it's current, unlikely to change,reductive state....thanks for bringing up that point...

Honestly...not even CLOSE to that. If anything, this station sounds like if HOT 103 came out TODAY! Then again, Joel Salkowitz behind the helm! I am losing my mind LOVING EVERY MINUTE hearing this station! There hasn't been this sort of excitement since...1986!
 
Another thing.....

Jimi, you have your comments. I actually KINDA know where you are going with this and respect your opinion....BUT.

YOU KNOW as well as EVERYONE on this board about the "blood, sweat and tears" I have been PAINSTAKINGLY pouring out over the last 16 years since Hot 97 went hip-hop, how a CURRENT based dance music (aka: rhythmic) station CAN work in New York City. I got signatures at Beatstock, clubs, etc. And even though over those years I've gotten TONS of negative criticism of how dance music can NEVER work, I NEVER gave up on dance music! I'm not just a fan...I BELIEVE IN IT!. And ever since the relaunch of WCBS-FM back to oldies, there has never been THIS much excitement about a station launch in New York City! You certainly don't see people jumping up and down about rock station, formerly smooth jazz CD101.9, WRXP (101.9)

With the launch of Pulse 87, we can now begin to further our movement NATIONWIDE! And of course, we will STILL support Party 101.5/105.3! 2 rhythmic stations in the region! THAT'S WHAT MATTERS!

Jimi, stand back....things are about to begin! :)
