PURO TEJANO 980

texmex
Myspace? Is that what all the Youngions are doing these days now? All I saw was this "Gangster Cholo vato loco homey viva la raza South Side" picture. After seeing that non sense, I had to close down the page. It's funny, we have a gangster here in the boards. Everyone, hold on to your wallets "Essé"! Hahahahahaha,..........................I crack my self up sometimes ;D

A question for Mr. Texmex. What other format would you see being more successful for the station than what KRTX is currently doing? Tejano on KRTX is what makes it unique to the market. Instead of ditching the format altogether when they flipped KQQK to K-Love, they put it on a weaker signal than what they had, allowing at least a portion of the city the opportunity to continue to listen. Hey that sounds familiar. It's identical to what happened to KPTY last year.

maybe they could do a sport station and leave la tremenda alone with its normal talk shows!!

How many "HD only" stations have hired a full time staff? seriously, c'mon!

Ahhh!!! The question was about 980 not no hd station!!

Even then, KLAT has that covered. They won't drop sports. Also, last time I heard KYST, I heard them talking about European Soccer. I'm also pretty shure Spanish Sports has been tried by KYST in the daytime. The only Spanish sports station we may ever see is again is ESPN Deportes, but Univision doesn't swing that way. LBI is another story.

Dude, do you have any Radio knowledge? KRTX is a rimshot AM station. Rimshot stations like this AM are used to fill niche formats. Tejano is a format that doesn't have enough listeners for a full time FM station, so it is used in the side as a small form of revenue. Kinda like dessert. How many times do we have to go over this? Univision is not dropping KRTX. It is hard to make revenue from this small stick. If it isn't broken, don't fix it. I don't think anything else will be made profitable on this station. The only thing that I can think of is brokered.

How did Univision acquire 980am?
I remember it was licensed to Richmond-Rosenburg.
Did it come with 104.9 which they moved to Missouri City?

I believe luckros is right on that. At one time 980 and 104.9 were KFRD and KFRD-FM licensed to Rosenberg. Now, my memory sometimes is suspect when it comes to non-Houston stations but I believe when Univision bought the two, KLTO/Galveston, which at the time was also on 104.9, was re-licensed to Crystal Beach and moved to 105.3 (now KPTI), and KFRD/Rosenberg was re-licensed to Missouri City as a simlucast of then KOVE/Port Arthur as K-Love 93.3 y 104.9. It gets even more confusing as this was about the same time that KQQK was moved from 106.5 to Beaumont's KXTJ at 107.9 and took the KQQK calls, where they still are today.
Somewhere 100.7 and 102.9 fit in there as well, but Heaven help me it has been too many years to recall all that transpired with Univision moving stations left and right during the 90's. What's amazing to me is that the very same flea powered 104.9 from Rosenberg may one day, in the not too distant future, become a full C on Senior Rd. 1560 is the only other station in this market that I recall has had that kind of good fortune...and dare I say luck.

104.9 was also KMIA and KMPQ before being taken over by the Univision predecessors. KMPQ was "Radio Impacto." Can't remember the KMIA slogan (Radio Mia?)

Estereo Latino was originally on 93.3 from 1992-98, and for a couple of years prior to the move to 102.9 was actually a trimulcast amongst KLTN, KLTO, and KLTP--the latter two being the signals on 104.9 in Rosenberg and Galveston. Both had previously been separate stations with their own programming.

Somewhere 100.7 and 102.9 fit in there as well

100.7 went on the air in 1996 as Puro Tejano KRTX, later morphing into House Party, then a KLAT simulcast, then Orbita, before being sold to Salem.

Congratulations to KRTX Puro Tejano 980 AM and KLTN 102.9 HD2 for reaching an all time high in the latest ratings. Rated number one spanish station on AM.

If it's any Univision People on this thread that has any power..... JUST BRING BACK PARTY 104.9 (Nothing else to say)

104.9 is doing very, very well in PPM... Top 10 18 34 general market and 12th in 18-49, and 3rd / 4th in 18-49 Spanish language (18-49 being the prime demo for Hispanic sales).
