Q-105

Yup... FM AND HD-1 Tampa/St. Petersburg/Clearwater. The home of the new GM, Brian Thomas, who seems to be helping to get them back on track. Sounds better now than it did when after Mason stepped down 3 1/2 years ago.

I think they sound better. Good enough to compete with any Top 40 back in the Sixties

While they are phasing out the waaaaay overexposed Charlie as voiceover guy and importing the voice from 105.9..and I'm sure other CBS oldies stations, the music playlist remains waaaay too tight. They continue to hack up songs and we're now starting to get tons more Mason Dixon references all...day...long..

Coming back from Orlando early Sunday morn, I had my choice between the stiff jock on q 105, or 1059's AT40 classic rebroadcast of The Greatest Disco Hits of All Time (all time being about 1975-80)..

I wasn't a disco guy, but Casey's polished and natural delivery knocked the Q off my dial. I also learned a few things from that show, where as on 105, I got the umpteenth replay that week of "Sweet Home Alabama"...

CBS has a winner with Brian. He'll refresh and get the Mighty Q105 back to the level it belongs.

I think it has really improved. Why?

1) local jocks 24/7
2) Old school jingles
3) Sonovox
4) Better playlist than the Eagle by far and loads more personality

It is my number one preset . Of course just my opinion

They need to stop playing the single versions of everything. If you're going to cut the keyboard solo out of a Steely Dan song... just don't play it. If you're going to cut the WHOLE BRIDGE out of a Rolling Stones song, just don't play it. The hack and slash job they do on their music is appalling. Screw the Q.

... Of course The Eagle isn't any better, but hey get used to it. Everything is homogenized these days. Flavor isn't important. You get to pick from 20 radio stations that all play the same crap you don't want to hear, and you get to pick from two politicians who have the same opinions on everything and both want to screw you. Welcome to America.

Like I have been saying for years and years... GENERIC RADIO ..... and frankly, IT SUCKS !!!

Sorry, I'd rather hear the single versions. It's more authentic to what stations like Q105 played when this music was new. In fact I was just thinking about this last night when I heard Q105 play a NON-single version of "I Can't Go For That" by Hall & Oates. It would be nice to have an oldies station actually play the right 45 versions.

I thought the big Sixties Top 40's always played the short versions and caught flack then. Q105 needs reverb

The short version were played so as to give the appearance of playing more songs than the competition. They speeded up the songs for the same reason plus it gave the appearance that the other station's music dragged when played at the right speed.
Unless you were playing a Cher record. Speeding it up made her sound like a chipmunk. Not a flawless practice, for sure.

I feel ya, I understand what you're saying... but it is pretty annoying for me to hear them play Miss You by the Rolling Stones, and then the song is over in 3 minutes flat. I guess I would understand if they were playing a huge variety of music. But even though they've got 3 decades worth of music to pick from, they're still just playing the same handful of songs over and over. So they're saving 2 or 3 minutes by hacking the instrumental breakdown out of a song... whats the point? To get to the next overplayed hacked up song? Or to get to the next commercial break quicker... I don't like it.

Cedric, I totally agree. Whats the point of having a huge playlist and only play a few songs along with talking over the music. That's why radio pretty much sucks. Also, I love the fact that Q105 injects Wal-Mart style censoring of whatever "they" deem as not tasteful. Then when M. Jackson croaks, they fall all over themselves on the morning show about what a great showman he was when in fact he was another Jerry Sandusky. What a bunch of phoneys.

A few points:

1.) Talking over the music is a lost art. As they say, "don't try this at home," well, if you can't do it right, don't. It is why it died. Talking over the music complements the song when done right. Since the Eighties, the art has been lost.

2.) Music based radio stations are running into a problem because they have to compete with iPods, iPhones, iPads, Pandora, and with iheart, etc, they are competing with stations from all over the world. In addition, they have to pay royalties to play those songs that people may, or may not, want to hear at the time it is playing. There are only so many songs in the Public Domain.

3.) Michael Jackson focused his life in music and enjoyed performing and watching people enjoying themselves. Michael Jackson, mentally, was still a child. He never grew up, emotionally. Didnt have to although Joe tried to and we know how he was treated. Michael wanted to be a kid and didn't want to grow up. There will be a whole wall of psychology books dealing with Michael Jackson. I wouldn't be surprised if Amazon will have a bunch of books available. So far, I'm not seeing much of a connection with Jackson and Sandusky.

All these complaints you have can be solved by #2.

You all can pick ove Q105 all you want, but I think it is best in the area for my tastes in music and delivery
