Q-Mix in Columbus

Oops. I meant Sara Beth, not Dawn. My barber plays Q-Mix in his shop and told me that he heard that Sara Beth is really Poopsie. BTW, who is Tina Delgato?

"BTW, who is Tina Delgato?"

Come gather 'round baby dj's for a little radio history. Back in the 1960's, there was a "boss jock" at KHJ/Los Angeles named The Real Don Steele. He would often say: "Tina Delgado is alive...alive." Who Tina Delgado was or if she was even a real person is a mystery.

One of the my most treasured memories of working in radio happened at Q-MIX. I had just been hired full time when I was sent to the Commons Mall w/ a cell phone and "The Visable Vault". (a plexiglass vault w/ a digital code. Enter a 5 didgit code to win $10,000.) I had been there for about 50 minutes and just finished a hit when a woman w/ her neice walked by. I asked if she wanted to try but she just waved me off. The kid cajoled her till she gave in. A million in one shot and THE VAULT OPENS! The really cool thing about this? The woman had lost her job about4 weeks earlier and was in danger of losing everthing. ;D

I got an email over the weekend about this thread, but I wasn't going to post for obvious reasons. But the above post by Shadow Catcher (Matt Joyce/Sheek) brings back a fond memory. I was at the station when Matt called in to say that someone had just won the $10,000.
Nobody, especially me, believed him. It was a nice contest but none of us thought anyone would actually win the money.
Once Matt finally convinced me it was legit, I put him on the air live with the winner and it was on the front page of the Columbus paper the next day.
Dave Wineland and Mike King handed this girl a check for $10,000 at our Christmas Musical Fireworks a couple of weeks later, and as Matt said, she could really use the money. Especially at Christmastime.
Thanks to Bob and Darren (Cubs Win, Cubs Win) and Jerry and Chris (Jimbofan_1) for all the kind words. Darren, you're da man for knowing who Tina Delgado is. Even I had to Google that one up.

Hi! This is Sara Beth- and I was slightly surprised when i first heard about this site! Wow! very cool! Thanks for all the comments about QMIX! you guys rock!

and I would also like to kill a rumor- I am NOT Poopsie. nope. She is a real person though I assure you and she is very sweet.

Just thought I would clear that up. thanks to everyone who listens!

It is time to revive this thread back to the top of the board.
The spring book is in and WRZQ (QMIX 107.3) has soundly defeated the competition for the 6th or 7th consecutive book, and the upcoming County-By-County book will give them their highest rating ever.
I don't know if another 10,000 people will post on this message board to try to rack up the same numbers as WHUM's family, on their post (the "Bruce's challenge")
But what they may be lacking in excitement on the Radio-Info boards, they seem to be making up in astronomical ratings down there in Columbus. With the self destruction continuing at White River (104.9 The River... who is their target demo?), and WKKG's sitting in the ivory towers with little or no exposure in community events and doing remote broadcasts, it looks like it may be another long summer at 31 and Washington.

Anyone care to post the numbers?

Koba,

You must be smokin' the same thing the Q-Mix marketers are when they run around telling clients they're number one. You might double check that you are using the 2007 county-by-county book and not 1977 because the numbers I'm looking at show WKKG AND WWWY beating Q-Mix in 12+, 18-34 and 25-54 demos. As for The River...Koba, supposedly you work for an ad agency, you should know who the demo for a Classic Hits radio station is. If not, you're in the wrong field. Q-mix's "music all over the map" format will soon meet its death because The River is already on in lots of businesses that used to play Q-mix.

Wow, Columbus radio revisited again. Everybody fighting over the numbers. Well depending on who looks at the numbers you can make them say anything you want them to say to fit your need. You know, numbers really do not mean a thing except to the agencies. The proof is when you are out and about and you listen to how many people have a station tuned in. That is the real gauge. Buff, (I know who you are) there you are pounding on your chest again defending the stations. The River is making strides early on and will continue to make strides forward. In fact do not be surprised if it moves ahead of WKKG and Y106. You need to look and some of the demos in this area and see which portion makes up the majority of the population in this area. Pound on your chest and make yourself proud because in all reality, WKKG and Y106 really do not live up to their potential. Not even close. If they were to be as successful as they should be, everyone at the home officew would freak out. They would understand that those stations have been under performing for a while. Why, because people that really get it and want to move those stations onward and upward are never givin that opportunity. Idea after idea tossed aside unless it is certain people that come up with the idea. What a shame. And before you get ready to fire a missle at me as being a angry former employee, let me tell you that I am enjoying life outside radio very much. No head aches, no hassles, no sell my life to the business. My life is quite good and I am anjoying it. So what you did almost 2 years ago was the best thing. Just my thoughts. "Java" Joe Kelly former White River employee
