Q100 gets a new name...

In a redux of Cox v. Susquehanna, some underemployed attorneys manage to file Cumulus v. Cumulus over Q99.7 vs. 99X.

That was a landmark case between B99 and Warm 99. How are some stations still allowed to not use the decimal place in their station names? I understand those that were that way before the case would be grandfathered but what about afterward?

I don't think the FCC cares how a station promotes itself just so it broadcasts a legal ID with the call letters once an hour.

A station is "allowed" to call itself anything it wants, and that includes the frequency described as it wants to describe it. If a competing station felt the frequency as described was misleading, the competing station could sue the perceived offender.

As far as Q100, I was surprised Cumulus didn't change the moniker to Q99.7 when the station moved from 100.5 to 99.7. I realize Cumulus felt the Q100 brand had equity, but they could have transitioned it by saying something like, "Q100 is now Q99.7."

I still think that Cumulus should have changed it to Power 99 and told iHeart that they have dibs on the name.

WWWQ-FM

Caller 10 - Happy New Year. I have not listened to the station in a long time. It would think they would use this as a good opportunity to brighten things up a bit. Hopefully, someone can give you precise info on that.

Hahaha....

I've always thought 96.1 as a Top 40, could've kept the WKLS calls and used the 'KisS FM' brand. Glad they chose 'Power' tho. As 'Kiss FM' obviously sounds more generic.

WKLS did have a strong AOR association...a class A FM AOR station in NE Alabama picked up the calls as soon as CC let them go.
