Q100: Stop Calling Yourself a CHR.... You are a Hot AC

Thanks for the support, electroboy73. I have thought about sending this to Q100 but it won't make a hill-of-beans difference. They obviously think what works for Topeka or Sioux Falls will work in Atlanta.

As far as the person who said they can call themselves anything they like.... this is true. They can call themselves anything. However, the reality is what is perceived. Just because Obama calls himself a 'moderate' democrat doesn't negate the fact that he is a commie, pinko liberal. Just because Q100 call themselves a top 40 and playing "All the Hits" doesn't negate the fact that they are not and they don't.

Let's call a spade a spade: IMO, Q100 is half a step away from being B98.5. In fact, lets just drop the Q and rename it: B100

No need to send it to them. We know they read this board but irregardless they are pulling ratings and they are not going to change based on your personal preference/opinion.

I would think they are probably perceived by their listeners and not people of this board as exactly as they promote themselves. The perception of them may not be your reality but for most of their listeners it is.

Exactly. Not only are they ahead of Star 12+, but they beat them top to bottom demographically. Women 18-34 was laughable, especially in the morning shows. And I know they read this board too, and I know they don't care about these opinions because the ratings clearly say they're doing just fine with their playlist.

If perception means everything, than here's what's up:

Outside of Bert, Q can't do much. Let's face it: Bert is a QUALITY product with depth and it’s hard to contend with. Bert doesn't even play music and he murders the competition in almost every demo. In Q's case, it's Bert that holds the station up, essentially. So if perception means everything, than the Bert Show is the cause for Q100's image. Furthermore, Q is certainly less current than its competition. If you really look at music rotations analytically, you'll see what I am talking about-- and that's fact, not opinion. Based on that logic, one could certainly argue that Q100 is not really a CHR. What shocks me is that Q doesn't just make changes to music during the day and plays hits more often. If they were to make a more strategic decision on rotations and sounded more like Star during the day, they could SINK Star for good. Since they have a strong perception (thanks to Bert), why not give the 1-2 punch and fix the music to follow through?!? One last thing.... since we're on the discussion of calling a "spade a spade", someone should probably point out that WSTR is beating WWWQ in peeps 12+. The last published numbers indicated a 2.5(WSTR) vs 2.1(WWWQ). Just being accurate.

Those last published numbers aren't the most recent. The new PPM numbers came out, and Q had a 3.6 or 3.7, I forget which now, and Star was a 3.1 or 3.2. So that would be the accurate ratings. And from what my friends have said in the building, in the weekly numbers that PPM gives, they even widened the lead more so.

And Bert absolutely is what carries Q100, which is why he got a nice big contract to go nowhere for the next few years. But why would Q change their music to be more like Star when Star has been floundering ever since the Morning Mess came in? I would think they would not want to sound the same as the station they just passed in the ratings throughout every demographic, correct?

Ok, then. That makes sense. I assumed you were reffering to Summer book. I also understand your logic about the music and not changing things. But, I would argue that outside of STRONG AM drive numbers, Q is doing pretty average. BUT, before I could go into detail, I have to get a chance to look at some numbers more closely to back up my whole change the music thesis. My point was that Q could be even stronger througout the day, thus bringing up the station overall--even more, with some appropriate music changes and REALLY put it's competition in a vice grip.

Q100 calls itself things? Is it a person? Hummm ... here's a joke: "A priest, a rabbi, and Q100 walk into a bar ...." (complete the sentence if you wish).
