They went classic rock, but they are doomed. Channel will grab alot of there listeners...maybe the end for WRCZ????? I think this station will need to go back to more active rock...its the only way for them to survive. Free Beer and Hot Wings....nothing special just a regular morning radio show...I hate to say it but Stern imitators. The rotation is nothing great but lets give it time and see what happens...we maybe to critical of them at first....check out the new website....no pictures of any personalities ...was there any firings on Friday??? Flounder was on this morning during...maybe he survived???Lets give it a day!!!!

I know the Hot Wing show is new to Albany, but man I'm not impressed. Play some music.

I have to agree, there is nothing special there. I also think there is too much jabbering going on in other dayparts too. Let the music do the talking.

Weird

It is peculiar. Everything has changed drastically except for the jocks. A week ago, these same voices were pushing an alternative brand. And now, the same voices are pushing classic rock. What if you went back to the same car dealership everytime you needed a car. Then after many many years, you walk in, and everything has changed. The makes, the models, the interior decor, everything. But all the salespeople and management were the same, just wearing different shirts. They have told you over several years that (insert car make here) is the best. Would you believe their new sales pitch?

Re: Weird

Regardless of whether it was smart, having been laid off a couple times myself, I am glad that the company didn't fire all those people, especially heading into the holidays. We don't really give props to companies for not firing people, which is kind of unfair since we have an easy time doing the opposite.

Lets wait a few weeks and then judge the product........

The product is an established product, not a new one. There really is no need for a waiting period. The fact is, they are just run of the mill and not that good. A poor base to build on.

That statement is soo true..Most stations that flip take at least a month for settling down into a safe place on the dial...

R.I.P. The Edge....

Re: Weird

You make a good point...some companies wouldn't have given any thought to the time of year.

The Edge has been The Edge for a very long time and now that its gone it's almost like someone you knew died. Not in a sad sense, but more like someone who was always there, now gone.

There are some stations that have "always been" and you assume always will be, but when one goes it's strange.

It's about as out of place as Albany without Fly92, WGNA, EQX, or WGY.

You can bet your a** if it was CC making the changes the whole staff would have been gone, Christmas or not. I have a few friends that were shown the door by CC within the past week and a half, year end budget cuts, don't you know. I say Kudos to Regent for NOT taking the easy way out with the staff. To the prior post that compared jocks to salespeople selling cars, please you can't really be serious? There is a big difference between playing music and trying to be entertaining between songs to pitching a new Ford/Chevy or Dodge! Radio is like a large department store and the formats are but a single department inside the store. Please tell me you are, as a TALENT, capable of working in more than one department, if not you're in the wrong business. I can't imagine an actor saying to a casting agent, "nope don't do comedy just action films." You wouldn't stay employed long much less put food on the table.

I would have liked you to explain the difference. While the strategies to succeed are different, what we do and what car salesmen do are fundamentally the same. If you are on the air, you are in sales. If you think otherwise, you are not seeing The Big Picture. If your strategy is "playing music and trying to be entertaining between songs", you are not long for this business. There is a big difference between "entertaining" and "relating to".

>Radio is like a large department store and the formats are but a single department inside the store.

No, it is not, unless you know a department store where each department would be happy to see the others out of business.

Actors change their "act" to the roll.

I wasn't clear, sorry about that, the car is a tangable and the product coming out of the radio is not, big difference. I think you'd agree that Rush is selling himself and not your radio station and he doesn't play music but is highly entertaining, depending on your position. The last time I checked Stern was entertaining, and I happen to think that entertaining and relating go hand in hand one supports the other.

My guess is you have never managed a radio station or a business of any kind where overall market share of dollars came into play. Look at the big picture of market share in dollars not just your little share of the pie and it will make more sense. Oh, by the way if all the radio stations are not in the same business please explain what business a CHR radio station, a News/Talk radio station, a Classic Rock radio station are in? I know they're all different FORMATS, but you seem to think they're in a different business, just like to know what business that would be?

I do not get any of your points

When did I say radio stations were not in the same business. But now that you brought it up, they are, in the same sense that Tavern on the Green and McDonalds are both restaurants. Same business, different audiences. And since you brought up my management experience, I have programmed a handful of stations. *You* make a really bad analogy, and *I* am inexperienced? Good.

What? Does anyone know what this means? The "big picture of market share in dollars"? How about an example of exactly what it is you are talking about. I think you should just continue to "play music and try to be entertaining between songs". But whatever you do, do not give that as an answer if an interviewer asks how you intend to succeed in radio....or you may be working in Housewares.

I said nothing about Programming, relax it's just a discussion not a fight for control of the world. I said managed a business not programmed, very different.
We just we look at things differently, how's that?

I think you need to get a little less defensive, besides I like pots and pans!
