QFM

It is really a bummer to see rock stations in the market completely lost. Classic rock is really Nirvana, Alice in Chains, etc. Basically 90's with a hybrid selection of "oh-wow" songs from 70's and 80's w/o hair. Comments? The talent outside of Sue and Joe Show are not good.

Not sure why you say classic rock is primarily 90's. While there are a lot of variations, most classic rock stations seem to be 70's focused with a fair amount of 80's (both hair and hairless) and a smattering of 90's and 60's. I do agree that Q is lean on talent aside from Joe and Sue.

I liked them better when they played classic rock along with the best new rock. Too bad they went fully classic rock.

Stations like the Q, 'MMS and EBN used to be leaders in their markets. Hell they were leaders in the music industry. Now they have 300 song playlists, all of them songs i burned out on 30+ years ago.

I was going to ask the question 'Is it just me, or has QFM gone downhill recently?' I mean, it seems like it's not the same as it was even a year ago. I find myself moving on, not listening to the morning show anymore, etc, and I have been a faithful listener since day one. Wags & Elliott even knew who I was at one time. I hear lots of repeats thruout the day when I am on the road, from Joan Jett to Joe Walsh, nothing new or exciting comes thru. Morning show is not funny, no skits, etc........Thoughts?

WEBN has gotten much more current lately, in terms of their playlist.

There really is a problem from top to bottom and Q. Ownership thinks it's only a sales issue.

It's still mind boggling how many GMs Wilks has went through over there. I'm not sure of the grand total, but I'm guessing 3-4 over the last couple of years. Alan Goodman & Don Griffin are the two I can name off the top of my head.

I keep hoping the best for QFM, and I hate to move away, but really, it's not working for me the way it is.......Is the culprit management?

I think Alan was 10 or 11 since they took over in 2006

Nothing against the people they have had in as GM but they are clearly in the mode of throwing it all up against the wall to see who sticks...by leaving, I think these people cared what they were doing.

No, QFM has not lost 50% of their audience compared to a year ago.  In fact, they've gained some.  Here are the numbers (6+ cume, in thousands):

Dec 2011:  294,200
Dec 2012:  330,000
                    +12%

AQH share has dropped, though not by 50%:

Dec 2011:  5.3
Dec 2012:  4.3
                  - 19% / 1.0 points

That said, in the first three quarters of 2011 they were always in the 6 to low-7's range, and then started sinking.  In fact, Dec 2012 is the first time in 5 months they've been able to bounce out of the 3's.  Definitely not a healthy trend.

Thanks...That puts it more in perspective. Still, I can tell the Q starting to die slow death unless they pick it up. Commercial-free starting at 9am now. Goes to show the Morning Show is running out of steam. The only thing newer I have heard recently is Dokken's Mr Scary being played behind Arch's sports report in the late day after a full run of Eagles, Tom Petty, & Doobie Brothers in the afternoon.

What about adults and men? Those are the numbers that count.............6+ is not relevant for a classic rocker, no disrespect of course!

Yes, demos are what really count, but I don't have access to those numbers. In which specific age/sex breakout(s) did Q lose 50% of their audience compared to a year ago?

Even though persons 6+ isn't the relevant demo it still makes it pretty clear Q's hurting. Maybe the share increases of the last two months foreshadow a real resurgence, but somehow that doesn't seem likely. I guess we'll know for sure in the next few months.

Yes, time will tell. They obviously are changing the mix of music due as an oldies reaction, and now being cut on the younger end by RKZ?

I'm only one listener, but I haven't tuned in in months. I long ago got tired of the extremely predictable playlist, unfunny morning show liners and same old talent. For classic rock, I either go to the Brew or punch up my IHeartRadio.
