Quality Rock 93.3

Great point. Why have a "rock" morning show on a station that plays music for a more progressive/liberal audience. They now have Pugs and Kelly in reverse. Those two were liberal as hell, talking to a classic rock audience that tends to lean conservative. We all saw those numbers (or lack thereof).

Does anyone live in the northern part of the metro? (Mckinney/Denton or South Metro, Waxahachie to Cleburne?) How is the reception bin those areas?

It's Cumulus. You didn't expect it to make sense, did you?

NY/Philly poster here. Just had to chime in.

Quality Rock has to be the lamest, no thought, joke of a radio station moniker I have ever heard!

Quality meats, sure! I have listened to 1,000s of albums in my life and NEVER once have I used the word quality to describe my music.

"Awesome Rock" would sound better if they were going for a no thought approach!!! "Super Rock" would have more value.

Sorry to vent. Music looks cool though.

Last I heard, TRG are in a more tame but conservative political direction. Which makes me wonder how that angle is going to play with the AAA format when AAA listeners are often more moderate to progressive voters.

Moderate? No. Liberal? Yeah.

Look at it this way: Lex & Terry are on a station that caters to young white males (Conservatives), and L&T are very liberal (at least Terry is. Lex has no thoughts of his own). Who said any of this makes sense?

Then again, I'd like to think morning show humor (or lack thereof) would transcend political views.

The AAA format generally targets the type of listener who is turned off by "shock jocks" or an abundant amount of chat in morning drive period. The primary positioner of many stations in the format is "it's about the music" or "true to the music."

So regardless of how funny the Regular Guys are or aren't, they don't fit the perceptions that have been established for an Adult Alternative music station and it will be interesting to see how the combination is received. Are there other examples of successful, established AAA stations with talk in morning drive? I can't find one.

Exactly...I dunno what they are paying for TRG...but I'd imagine one "music guy" that's also a capable jock would be better.

Reception up here is good to fair depending on what radio I use. Comes in crystal on the
Eton S350DL
but on my Grundig G6 its hard to get. And on the philips stereo its very hard to get a decent signal of 93.3 on it.
all up here in Mckinney.

Excellent point buffalotom . Quality is a term dreamed up by someone who obviously is not familiar with the rock listener. At the same time, the music being played is not rock. I still say they should have just gone with a DAVE moniker. Hell, ALICE might even work here. I don't see this music as being predominantly male or female. Maybe they could go with "PAT". :D

"When you don't know what the heck it is...It's PAT!!!!" ;D

I am actually trying to find any example of a successful, established AAA stations regardless off their morning show without some kind of qualifier like they are 8th in menopausal women over 50.

I made this same exact point on the Atlanta boards after Atlanta's 100.5 switched to "Quality" Rock. TRG can be funny on occasion, but when it comes to politics they are hard-right conservatives. An example: right after the election, they used to do a bit called the "8 o'clock Obama Shot." It was ostensibly a drinking bit involving a toast, but the double entendre involving "Obama" and "Shot" was pretty transparent. Not surprisingly, they soon changed it to just the "8 o'clock Shot" (no word on the reason, but, yeah, it's pretty well known that the Secret Service has absolutely NO sense of humor about this sort of thing).

So what we have now is hard right talkers in the morning, and the rest of the day is music devoted to midtown hipsters who like to read the Sunday New York Times before picking up brunch at Whole Foods.

I don't know what Cumulus is thinking (or if they think at all), but this just makes absolutely no sense to me.

Liberty, thanks for that info..it appears Mckinney is on the edge of the coverage area indeed. Jimmy, not exactly sure but here (and I hate to keep pointing at it, but what about WXRT? Its been around for over 30 years. Granted, Chicago isnt Dallas by any stretch of the imagination, but the "AAA" format here has survived ..and it has also in Austin on KGSR 107.1

Umm, most of the young white males I know are quite liberal, especially the ones that like a lot of the more alternative rock the station has been playing. I like the mix. I'm very liberal and love REM, Green Day, Chili Peppers, etc., but I also love a little AC/DC, Zeppelin, Heart (before 80's), Hendrix, etc. The variety is cool, and I'll actually tune in..ocassionally. I did give TRG a listen this morning..I don't care which way the lean politically, they were boring and dry as hell. After about 15 minutes, I was done and won't be back.

Another thing, it's good to hear some female artists on that station, something I found lacking on The Bone. I'm a man, but I know some of the best rock (especially classic) has been by female fronted bands. It was good to hear Alanis yesterday too. Have they played any Fleetwood Mac??

Come on, Jeff. A "Rock" station? With the exception of Gnarls, this is a list of wuss Top 40 tunes from the '90's.

Excatomundo

As for the male-oriented Blue Humor in the mornings.....
They would have that regardless of the format....
It's what they do....

YOU know...Serving the "Public" .....
There's a need that has to be filled.....
Somebody's Gotta Do It !
And Clumlessness will gladly step up to the plate to do so !!

The only classic rocks acts you'll hear on here are The Stones & Zeppelin.
