Question for Donna

Donna, maybe you can solve a long time mystery for me. When I was young my Dad would take me to the top of the Custom House Tower, next door on India
Street was the Boston Board of Trade building. Until the late 60's this building had 4 self supporting towers (one in each corner) and I always wondered what they were for. The towers were identical to those removed two weeks ago from the WBZ Westinghouse factory in West Springfield.
Why I now bring this up is I found another clue, tonight I was thumbing through Images of America: Boston, a century of progress. Low and behold on
page 38 are not only the towers but some type of antenna strung between both pairs with some feeders faintly appearing.
Any ideas....I would love to finally solve this after all these years.

Dan, did not forget your pictures, still looking, I'll find them sooner or later.

I wondered about those four towers, myself. As a kid, I noticed that the 4 towers were not painted. But I never saw any sign of dipoles (feeders) between them. Could this have been some type of monitoring station during the Second World War or could have they been one of Boston's early broadcasters? OR, could have they been aerials to monitor international trade (quotes) from shortwave? I guess if anyone would know, it would be Donna! :)

The FCC Boston office used to be in the Custom House, so the towers might have been part of their monitoring station.

FCC field office, 6th floor, Customs House.
Took my General Class ham exam there.
My guess on the towers - ship to shore...

Perhaps US Customs-Coast Guard activity?
