Question for Val.

These posts are going way over my head. But back in 1982, I worked at a bar that had a CGY night on Thursdays. CherylAnn, Doug Edwards and Little Walter would come in and no exageration they would run up over a $500 bar tab every week.

Later when working in radio, I met John Moran and Bob McCann who mostly worked on WCCM. They had some good stories about CGY.

That type of hedonism continued almost until the Gowdy family sold out to ARS. Some of the station parties were legendary-the 1991 Halloween bash was one of the most over-the-top events I've ever attended. I remember Trevor hitting the ceiling over the staff bar/food tab which was well into 4 figures!
There were some great people who worked there, and that's what made coming to work on 33 Franklin St so interesting. Some of the CCM staff included Bruce Arnold (still there), John Moran, Ben Mevorach (now ND at WINS) and Dan Roche, who now works with (I think) the Sox.

What's the problem with Vig braggin' a bit about the old days which some of us feel were/are important? Personally, having lived 18 years in the Boston area and having been in local rock bands that entire time, I was never really that impressed with HW's show on WCGY. But, that doesn't mean that others weren't. And it doesn't mean that it didn't have listeners or wasn't a fun time. There are folks beyond the bands who listen to those shows. Personally, I was never a big fan of "Disco" Nik but he seems to be doing well. So be it.

I wasn't there in 1982, theAguy, so I don't know about that, but there was WAY too much drinking I observed in 1991-1993, which I found unprofessional and upsetting. This is people NOT involved per se with our Sunday night show though even some of the staff too indulged way too much for my liking.

It is one of the reasons I left to do my own thing.

Also, Anthony, thank you for noting that the old days were great but I'm not "bragging", a couple of certain individuals like to go on the attack every once in awhile. If I don't respond they let misinformation linger in cyberspace, if I do respond it's "bragging", whatever.

I had a great formula for WCGY and was consulting the P.D. on many things up there - how do you think
The Black Crowes got 3 songs on a playlist in one week? The formula was to go Modern Rock and give
FNX some competition (this is when WBCN was Oldies 104 with Freebird and many WZLX tunes on the playlist) so that we could sell the station to The Phoenix. Everyone would've won, including The Phoenix, which would've obtained a 50,000 watt signal. The idea was ignored and WBCN jumped on it down the road for other reasons - not to sell the station to FNX but to obliterare FNX.

C'est La Vie! There was too much turmoil swirling around...Trevor was not hungry (not when he could barter out dinners all the time)

[Add old English accent here] I'm sorry old chum, you're correct. You weren't braggin', you were just chatting about a bit about the good old days. And what harm is there in doing that, I say?

CGY and CCM produced some very good broadcasters including Steve Holman who went to WGST in Atlanta Bob McCann later joined him. Ed Coleman who is now at WFAN in New York, the late Lou Marcel, Dan Roche of WBZ, Mike Macklin formerly of Ch 7, and Ben Maverack of WINS.

Well, "Disco" Nik is lurking on the boards. I just got an interesting email from him on my MySpace account. After all these years, being a big radio star and all, he's still so sensitive. Jeesh. Lighten up, Francis!
