Quin and Rose lose an affiliate?

WWVA is having a local guy take over tomorrow morning. Also, are the CC properties in Wheeling sold? I heard a rumor they were. Will Quin and Rose lose anymore affiliates?

I know that WWVA wasn't happy with the ratings Quinn and Rose were bringing in.

They felt the show was more Pittsburgh orientated.

Oh how I wish I were privy to that information. I guess I view Wheeling as a Pittsburgh submarket, so I wouldn't know what the big deal would be if they had some of a pittsburgh feel to it.

Here's whats going on at WWVA. Dave "Bloomdaddy" Bloomquist former TV sports anchor and former AM drive @ crosstown WKKX is doing wake up service on 1170. It will be intersting to see how this show developews. Meanwhile, this afternoon Steve Novotony former PM talk host on WWVA was filling in for George Kellas on WKKX. Should be intersting to see how this transpires over the summer.

I can't speak for what their feelings were, but as a steady listener of that show, it is not Pittsburgh oriented. There are plenty of valid reasons for cancelling Quinn and Rose. That it is too "Pittsburgh Oriented" is not one of them.

What an odd show. I understand the appeal but I hope not to run into a regular listener at a dinner party. Yikes. It's so heavy handed it's almost a parody of itself.

How is Quinn and Rose any more "heavy handed" than Rush, Hannity, or Michael Savage? For that matter, how is it more heavy handed than Lynn Cullen, who consistently defends and advocates her political and cultural positions?

I'll buy the latter comment.

As far as Quinn's "Pittsburgh Content," I actually agree. I know there are plenty of local conservative candidates who would LOVE to go on it since 104.7 is conservative, but that's as close to a show that could promote local conservative issues 104.7 has.

However, these candidates are generally rebuffed.

However, that's what they told me at WWVA.

quinn and rose have no business being anywhere but p burgh......any cc station they are on or were on is a cramdown....

WWVA is sold to "good radio" like many of the other cc stations....

better for WWVA.

Pittsburgh and Wheeling are like night and day. The fact that this show was dropped is no surprise to me.

I have a good friend who lives in S.C. who listen to Quinn and Rose religiously on XM. So, I'm not sure what you mean about being anywhere but p burgh.

Morning Drive - Quinn?

Quinn does everything he can to sound as if he isn't Pittsburgh 'orientated' and could get away with that if he had a little more 'finesse' BUT the fella has just got to stop reading his opinions from notes he or others make. I love radio, so I listen to people whose politics I do not necessarily agree with but Quinn is harder to take than most. Something just does not ring true about his views and Rose makes me jump out of my skin. Morning radio is important to me. Back to WDVE every day. Still love the laid-back sound of Jimmy, Randy and Val. Who is listening to what in the morning drive?

It honestly seems to me that he tries to sound as if he is not originating from Pittsburgh - like he is doing an image thing to make the show sound like it is coming from somewhere else. I know other cities listen to the show. I just don't like him or his style. He does not seem authenic or original to me. His opinions sound reconstituted and his tone sounds falsely vehement. He also makes unnecassary racist/sexist comments and does not seem in control of what comes out of his mouth. Jeez! Sorry. I really don't like him.
I get annoyed because I listen to the station all night and wake up to his loud diatribes. Too lazy to change the station, I like Glenn Beck (much to my hippie dismay)....Guess I should just shut up and punch in something less annoying. Thanks for your response.

Give Dennis Miller a try on The Zone. I'm becoming a big fan of his show, and this coming from a big Glenn Beck supporter. I also like Dave Damlecheck (I know I spelled that wrong) at night when I leave work.

I agree.

I had never been a big fan of Miller's- he seemed to be a bit too smart allecky for me- but his talk show is the best work I've ever heard him do.

I am now a fan of Miller's.

Damlecheck is also growing on me. It's refreshing to hear a new perspective and I like a lot of his takes.

Seems Quinn and Rose have also lost the nine-tower-junk (WNTJ) affiliate and its sister simulcast.

I feel similar. And I'm not someone who heard him for ten minutes. I've probably heard a month's worth of shows over a long period of time, and I don't like the show. One thing I've noticed Quinn says every so often is "I was listening to Rush/Hannity/Beck yesterday." If you're a right wing talk show host, you probably shouldn't do that. There's a reason Rush's bumpers have lines like "Don't worry talk radio hosts, your show prep will continue." There's already enough talk on the radio about how liberals are terrible people and they're Un-American and how they might as well be communists, and Quinn and Rose don't appear to be adding anything new to the table that warrants them being syndicated. Except for maybe all those horrible "heads up" segments they do. That could be one of the worst talk show concepts I've ever heard. I'm also surprised Jim will start off a break sometimes mentioning being on XM Radio. If I was going to promote an affiliate, I'd at least do it for one that was paying me. They're paid nothing to broadcast on XM, and all the local ads are blocked out so it doesn't help the ratings or advertising. That's why John and Ken from KFI wanted off XM, and they eventually got pulled.

I suspect one reason is it is too one sided. All Pro Republican, there are some conservatives Democrats. But, he like Rush, only condems the Dems, it becomes boring.

We listen on 920 whjj Rhode Island, I can only take it in small doses, but, then again he like Mike Savage tells it like it is with terrorists in this country.

I am actually running the other direction on Dennis Miller.

The show is, at best, uneven. One or two segements a day are lively and he's on a complete roll. Otherwise is limp, sometimes forced and at least once a day just plain bad radio. He's improved 100% since he went on the air but its still a light year from good radio.

Its the same problem that he had at CNBC in the beginning. With no studio audience for feed back he can't tell what is working and what is not.

I wouldn't right him off just yet, but he's close to being another another voice in the wilderness.

But, he like Rush, only condems the Dems, it becomes boring.

Obviously, you haven't been listening to any of his illegal alien heads ups. On those issues on which he agrees with the President, Quinn sounds like someone who thinks the President is correct. But on the subject of illegal aliens, where he totally disagrees with the President, Quinn goes after Bush and the Republicans as if they were the Clintons.
