Great comment, Stuart.

I think this was the first book that 104.7 outdid KDKA in the April ratings. It was less than one overall percentage point.

Assuming that is being "blown out," I would think it might have something to do with 104.7 taking the Pirates away from KDKA.

Folks, if you're trying to "Out Pittsburgh" another radio station, a station couldn't do this better than to take away the broadcasts of a major local professional sports franchise.

Demographics. Demographics. Demographics.

The 12+ ratings are worthless because no advertiser buys those.

KDKA-AM is being buried. The overall number is smaller and the huge majority of the audience they still have is over 55.

KDKA is not in the Top 10 25-54. They are down there with the likes of WJAS in those demos.

I guess I'm the black sheep of the family...in NOT being a "lover" of KDKA. I've never been! I remember Cigna when he was at WOWO and I think I still have a QSL card from them in which Cigna is wearing a top hat. Cigna may have been a nice guy and all that but I've never liked him on the air...so go ahead and spit on my posting here. I go back to when Bob Prince was given the boot and beyond that. I had a friend who worked weekends on the air for KDKA who repeatedly told me it was a difficult place to work. During the Bob Prince fiasco I took notice how the place was top heavy with staff members, on and off the air, who were of a certain ethnic group. The head man was of this group also...golly, no wonder. I remember in the late 80's, one of their former PD's who was selling computerized traffic and billing software made a sales call on our station. At first I thought this was going to be a great conversation about radio as well as listening to his sales pitch. However, within a few minutes, it was quite obvious this guy did not have the personality or friendliness to carry on a meaningful conversation beyond a few sentences.

DXDX--You may or may not have valid points, but I see no point in posting them in this thread. If you don't have anything nice to say about the deceased, start a new thread. Just my two cents.

I think Jim Quinn took it over for a little while as well. No one mistook him for Martha Quinn.

Pman.....please tell me what is wrong with my statement...."Cigna may have been a nice guy but I didn't like him on the air" which I think is what I said. There are probably people you like and dislike on the air. Nothing wrong in that. By all accounts Cigna was said to be a nice guy. I did not then and do not now doubt that or have any problem with that...who could? I just did not like his on air performance. Cigna being a nice guy, in my opinion, was and is worth a whole lot more than on air performance any day.

I never have nor never will worship at the altar of KDKA. I had much better opinions of other Group W stations. There is nothing wrong in that statement. Of course, if you are worshiping at the said altar, then apparently in your view, those of us who don't are sub-human. My views of KDKA were established without regard to Cigna and whether he was on the staff or not, did not change my overall opinion of KDKA since, again in my view, he was not part of the reason I had established my opinion.

Since this is apparently the "secret" reason for one of the biggest and most controversial decisions ever, you really need to expand on this and explain it more fully.

No it isn't the reason they got rid of Prince. It was at that particular time I paid closer attention to their inner workings. The reason they did get rid of him was because he allegedly upset the wrong people.

So we've gone from hints of an ethnic-driven conspiracy to simple acceptance of the story everyone has known for the last 35 years?

Disappointing. But still nice to see someone break speed records going in reverse.
