Rachael Ray Show - Several Station downgrades

She got replaced by Queen Latifa in Boston. Ironically, Shaw's Supermarkets is running a promotion for free RR dinnerware. There's no mention of her show in the in-store publicity materials, at least none that I've seen.

Rachael Ray has been on KCAL here in Los Angeles for the last few years, even since Let's Make a Deal debuted on CBS back in '09. She's was on at 9am on KCBS before the shift a hour earlier on KCAL.

Yeah, I saw the same thing last night at the grocery store (Albertson's)...you accumulate a certain amount of stamps, you'll get dinnerware and other similar items.

I'm waiting to see how her ratings are on WGN-TV, since WGN-TV lost Live With Kelly & Michael to WLS-TV, & replaced the 9am timeslot with a 6th hour of news. Rachel Ray is on between the WGN morning news & the WGN Midday News. Many people in Chicagoland suggested that WGN-TV move her show to the afternoon, since they chose not to replace Live with another syndicated show, & added another hour of news. They suggested that if they're gonna hog the morning hours with news, that they should just make the 10am timeslot news as well.

In Charlotte Rachael moved from 10 am on WBTV to 9 am on WJZY. Queen Latifah replaced Rachael on WBTV and is airing at 3. Let's Make a Deal has moved to 10am.

If Katie is canceled, Rachael could get some upgrades next year primarily by getting cleared on all the ABC O&Os not just WABC, WPVI, etc. and she could go to other network stations (not owned by ABC) that might have Katie in the afternoon. It maybe interim though as ABC would likely try to develop something of their own for the following year.

Rachel Ray a good fit for next season over on ABC-13 in Houston(KTRK) because that station might steal Dr. OZ from Channel 2, And Dr. OZ might even wind up on FOX 26, (KRIV) because Dr. OZ has downgraded its time slot down to 12 Noon from 3:00 PM, as it gives its spot back to Dr Phil, who left KPRC after 4 seasons away from that station (Last seen on KUBE-57, For the past two seasons).

In regards to Dr. Oz, I was thinking about maybe what KABC will replace him with after he moves back to KTTV next season. I know Meredith Vieira's talk show premiere next year on the NBC O&Os, and locally KNBC just picked-up Who Wants To Be a Millionaire for this season. It wouldn't surprise me if KABC picks up Millionaire for the 2pm slot (or at 3pm, if Katie goes bye-bye) next year.

Well, in Memphis Rachael Ray was dropped from WMC 5 (NBC) in September 2012, and a year later, she still isn't airing anywhere in the Memphis area. Also just this month, WATN 24 (ABC) dropped Kelly and Michael and no one else has picked them up either.

I believe KRIV is getting Dr. Oz. Several Fox O&O's are next year including WJZY in Charlotte. Will be interesting to see what WSOC replaces him with. For this year it moved from 4 to 3 pm on WSOC (switching places with Dr. Phil) and from 8pm to 9am on sister station WAXN.

Strangely enough, it is currently on Fox O&O WAGA in Atlanta but will be leaving that station when other O&O's pick it up. Odd. Go figure.

In the case of Rachael Ray and her dinnerware promotion, it should be noted that she was well known as a cook and for giving cooking advice long before she got a TV show.

In fact, it was her fame as a cook which got her on TV.

Her ratings will probably be poor in Chicago, but I think she sustains from her clearances in NYC/Philly and some of the markets where she is on a network station. If ABC does nix syndicated 'Katie', it could move Jeopardy/Inside Edition back to 3pm and pick up Rachael at 2pm on WLS. Somebody here mentioned Katie joining 'The View' when Barbara Walters retires, which sounds plausible.

I'm wondering how Queen Latifah will do. In Philly, it's a 3pm battle with Q Latifah vs. Ellen vs. Katie vs. Dr.Oz, all very female oriented talk shows. While WPVI has traditionally been the strongest of the four network stations, I think Katie's show probably draws the least amount of excitement of them. Rachael won't compete better but her show is probably a lot cheaper.

Out here in Honolulu, her show has been shuffled a lot. KGMB had Ray at 3pm during the first 3 seasons, then moved to KHNL for the next 3 until KHON picked her show up in 2012. When KHON picked up "Judge Judy" from KITV (September 9, 2013) they moved her from 3PM to 10AM.

I'm not sure how long WGN-TV has the rights to Rachel Ray. So it might not be possible for WLS-TV to get her show next season, unless WGN-TV gave it up voluntarily.

As for Queen Latifah in Chicago, her show has 2 separate affiliates. WBBM-TV is the primary affiliate, & airs her show at 2pm, while WCIU has her show on at 7pm on 26.1 as a secondary affiliate.

As for WLS-TV getting the rights to Live with Kelly & Michael, so far, the ratings are down since the move from WGN-TV, but we'll have to wait & see if the ratings continue to go down, despite WLS-TV keeping the show on at 9am (where ABC/Disney Domestic Television prefers the show to air). The ratings are going down as well on Windy City Live, since moving to 11am, & may continue to drop, since the station angered long time viewers of their 11am newscast by cancelling the news, to move Windy City Live at 11am. Adding a bit of news to the local show doesn't help the show at all. It however was WLS-TV's current station director that didn't want Live with Kelly & Michael on at the same time as Windy City Live, & over bidded for the show, just to keep from competing for ratings. Had Emily Barr stayed as WLS-TV's station director, I doubt Live with Kelly & Michael would have come to the station, as she was committed to Windy City Live at 9am.

As far as this season goes, It might as well be the last season for "Rachael Ray". Rachael tries to keep show as fresh as she could, but it failed, adding Bobby Flay & TV Legend Regis Philbin as part-time co-hosts. What I like to see as Rachael's co-host: her gal pal Sunny Anderson-Well, Sunny needs to have her own daily show.

ABC had plans to move 'Live with Kelly' long time ago after Oprah called it quits. Then it was a matter of when WGN's contract ended with Kelly. It was most likely beyond the station director (of WLS) control. 'Regis and Kathie Lee' was originally on WCAU (CBS), but it was moved to the ABC affiliate in Philly, as soon as that contract ended so that ABC network could arrange to move it off the competitor station. Philly used to have a morning show that was #1, but Barbara Walters insisted 'The View' get the clearance. It's an O&O station so the decisions from NY trump the decisions locally.

That force is there in Chicago now, and it will eventually cancel Windy City Live.
It could have been "Windy City Live" at 9am, Kelly at 10, The View at 11, but the national shows trump, thus The View airs live in Chicago and Kelly is at 9 (not live but 9 is still earlier than 10).

With people waking up earlier now anyways and local newscasts starting at 4am, ABC/WLS might as well move GMA at 6am central to keep the consistency of airing it live, thus giving WLS another daytime hour as well. ABC is intent on keeping 'The View' aired live in Chicago so GMA live, Kelly Live at 8 central, would be in that track.
