Racist Stations in Atlanta

OK...Imus is done, a 30+ year career finished over a throw away comment. Now let's take a look at our own radio market.

Mayor Shirley Franklin was on WAOK the other day saying Imus should be fired for racist comments. My question is....how many whites are employed as on-air talent at WAOK? According to their web site, one, and he co-hosts the 8a-noon Saturday automobile show with a black co-host.

If WSB or Q-100 had only whites on the air, how long would it take for the FCC or the EEOC to investigate and sanction them?

How many whites are on the air at V-103?

Before Mayor Franklin does another thing, why doesn't she condemn this form of racism? Or would that take too much political courage?

When traditionally black stations decide to hire whites as on air talent, then they can criticize the Don Imus' for being racist. But don't hold your breath.

How many "whites" want to work in an environment where they hate R&B or hip hop. These are "black" oriented stations. Nothing racist about that. If you don't like it, then turn your dial to the "left". Have a good one!!

So, it's OK for WAOK to spew "hate whitey" rhetoric all day, every day--- and V-103 to make as many "white jokes" as they'd like? "Black" stations (i.e "BET") get a free pass to do whatever, while so called "white" stations have to tip-toe around so as not "offend" anyone and make sure they are properly "diverse". I am SO SICK of this crap, and the Imus thing being blown into a seemingly life and death matter has exposed the double standard in every aspect of our country today. This over the top PC culture we have cultivated in our culture is out of control.

What foolishness---"black" radio has a long history of employing whites---some "white" stations do not have a history of employing blacks. Regarding discussions on black talk radio, there is a big difference between discussing discrimination (whether real or not) and personal, hurtful remarks based on race. I do think a few national black hosts, such as Steve Harvey and Tom Joyner, need to take a good look at what they say, but I've never heard either say anything approaching Imus' crap. BTW, there is a place for racial humor on radio, but not the personal, mean, insulting stuff most of the shock jocks use....

And yet the point remains; if a station like WSB or Q-100 did not have any blacks on the air, the EEOC would crack down on them in an instant. But, when the "black" stations lack any white on-air talent, there is nothing said about it.

If the Mayor wants to take on racism, then let her go after the very same station on which she appeared this week. Until WAOK, or V-103 start leading the charge to racial diversity, then they are part of the problem.

How many years did it take 95.5 THE BEAT to hire 1 part time African American jock? This is a station that spins Hip-Hop and R&B music from artist that are mostly African American. Lets not talk about racist!

And the person who brought "Hip Hop" to Atlanta, on the radio, is a white female.....Mary Catherine Sneed. V103 (and WAOK) is owned by CBS, a public company, which I'm sure has many white stockholders.
I don't think....I may be wrong.....but I don't think you must be "non-white" to work on air at V103. Hot 107.9 had a morning show member who was white.
Why are so many people who post on this forum having such trouble understanding the why there is black fustration in this country?

There are a lot of white and black people in sales, management, and administrative positions at 95.5 and 103.

Geez, who did Q have when they got started? A weekender or overnighter or some such?
And the girl who was on The A Team and is now on The Beat looks white.
And, one of the best country jocks ever is/was Tony Kidd, who manages a station or two for Cox. Tony owned PM drive in Birmingham in the early 80s. Started every air shift with "Hellll - LO dere!"
I don't think people care a whole lot what color the mouth behind the mike happens to be, although Rod Jones ("Bill Dukes") had to be escorted away from WAPX in Montgomery once years ago.

OK, I'll ask:

Who the hell cares about what color your skin is? Damn, let's talk about talent. I personally could care less what shade of beige everyone is.

One man's opinion - love y'all...

Try checking the Web sites of CHR stations, talk stations and AC stations around the country and in YOUR market and see how many faces of color you see on the air staff. Bet the only black employee at your station is the receptionist---if that. Maybe public affairs?

Don Imus is no better or worse than Rush, Michael Savage, or anyone of that ilk. That being said, the marketplace, and not a few agitators (Sharpton, Jesse) should determine if a show wins or loses. This is a typical liberal response...i.e., to censor - if you can't win, force them out with scandal.

The shows on 102.5 are pure racism(dr. dyson, al sharpton, and Michael Bazen) people need to start calling there sponsors.
While we're discussing urban radio I'm amazed that V103 mornig show will play the songs like "I'm in love with a stripper" and then the next segment Bishop Eddie Long will share a brief spiritual statement. If a popular minister doesn't have a issue with lyrics what makes you think anyone else cares? Racism like hypocracy knows no color.
If you want to hear another good hate whitey station tune into WRFG any given afternoon.

Unfortunately, that is true and with programming changes in the past year that is what's happening.
You would think that if you are a station that relies on listener's for financial support you would not
allow this type of stuff to air. I think with the Imus fiasco those stations that do have programs and
jocks ( White or Black) that make racially charged comments will be held accountable.

OK. I am a white male, like country music, top 40, hip hop, r & b, talk shows , yeah I like it all. It is no secret that top 40, r&b and hip hop are great dance music and they realy have the best beat. I don't care what color, race, sex, or whatever you are, as long as you abide by the same rules and standards as I do. I do not owe anybody anything, but have been treated bad by different groups of people myself several times. I can not control anything that my great grandfather, great great grandfather, great great great grandfather, great great great great grandfather may have done in their lives, but it does not change me for being me. I have many friends of all colors, race, sex and national origins and enjoy having and calling them my friends. That being said, I also don't like the double standard that is put on several issues like you are talking about on here. There is a double standard and that is racism in reverse, and all of my friends agree with me on this subject. What happened many years ago is history, and it needs to be in our history. If you want to better ourselves you should be fighting to get the great Tuscogee Air Men put in our history books in our schools. They are a great flight squadron who never lost a bomber while they were flying guard. Atlanta has a great chapter here with 3-4 original members and we should be fighting this together. But no, We are more concerned about Imus instead..... Let's get things on the right path together!

Just a thought from a white guy wanting credit for some great black men who deserve to be known.

Really? I didn't know that Q-100 had any minorities on the air. of WSB, AM has no minority on air talent (since Royal Marshall was dropped as a talent). FM has none either.

Kooch

Right on , Dano!!!! ;D I think all of the above statemets (above Dano's) show there is a serious problem on all racial sides.... I come to the conclusion that racist thought is alive and well in many different shades of skin color and that each race, sect, creed and economic sub-culture is speaking in FEAR... Fear will kill an individual and put a wall up to listening to others concerns and fears, as well... :-\ We can try and look for revenge, or denial, but if we don't find a fresh and new starting point, we are doomed. Learn from past, but don't stay in the past... It's like driving down the highway of life... Look in the rearview mirror briefly and often to see where you've been, but focus on what is ahead and around you 90% of the time and go forward... If you drive 70 mph and constantly stare into the rearview mirror (the past), you will lose control, and CRASH! Bitterness, too, will kill you and all that is around.... A good dose of Ecclesiastes would be a breath of fresh air.... 8)

Actually, WSB-AM has a black afternoon anchor, a black reporter, two black traffic people, and a black assistant program director.

As for WSB-FM, Larry Lane is still their overnight anchor.

There is diversity at Cox. Show me that same diversity at V-103.

Oh...and one more thing, and the point of the initial post; if Frank Ski had called the Rutgers team "Nappy headed hos" we'd have never heard a thing about it. If a black DJ had done it, there would have been no uproar. If you disagree with me, then you're dreaming.

As far as V103 goes, Isn't Ell Duncan white and on the air every afternoon with Ryan Cameron? She's even done a couple of solo shifts on the weekends so there goes your diversity at V103. Now if the tables were turned and a jock at HOT 107.9 or V103 called a white person trailer trash, cracker or whatever, it would be all over the news . Never have I heard any black jock on ATL radio called anyone being black or white a "ho" so get you issssh together son.

As far as Cox goes, the only diversity over there is KISS 104.1 FM. Have you listened to THE BEAT lately? WTF? I guess thats what happen when you have no diversity.
