Does anyone know whether this 'no djs' thing is a permanent deal or what have you?

I liken it to getting a hand-knit sweater from grandma for Christmas. Automation is like the scratch-off lottery tickets from drunk Uncle Gary.

I disagree. Why, when their M.O. is "less talk, more music" would they spend the time, effort, and dollars on a morning show that has Preston & Steve, Opie & Anthony, and all the other morning shows in town stacked against it from the very start? It goes against their supposed mission to play more music, and it's going to get crushed anyway.
I'm not saying that they shouldn't try - I'm just saying that maybe it's wise for them to pick their battles here. Get some other personalities into the station first, see how it goes, and then in a couple of months think about jumping into that morning show rat race. Until then, blowing all your money and resources on what is sure to be a losing battle at first is not a really wise thing to do.
edit: i do see that you were referring to a syndicated show but I still don't think it's worth the resources. If this town wouldn't tune in even to listen to "The Philly Guys", why would they tune in to hear some schmoes from a station in D.C.?
Exactly. Normally, getting a good morning show would be priority #1. However in 104.5 case, anyone who likes to listen to some form of talk already has it with P&S, and O&A. 104.5 would be fighting a losing battle. Instead, they're doing the smart thing, by offering an "alternative" for rock fans in the morning by playing music. They will still get killed in morning drive by MMR and ysp, but atleast it isn't costing them a buttload of money.carnyfeet said:Mike said:well 104.5 does need a morning show mabye they could pipe in elllot from dc101

I see no reason why MMR would let it get to the point where their contract is ever close to expiring. P&S have been a goldmine for that station.
