Radio 104.5

Why the hell do you need DJ's? I want to hear music. Not someone english or non english moron speaking.

I'm hoping they'll get some DJ's who will be a partner to the music, rather than try and overshadow the music like the guy who does afternoon's on MMR.

If they were to introduce any 'personalities', it strikes me that Radio 104.5 would be the ideal place to host the return of Freebeer and Hotwings to Philly.

Mommy, please make it stop.

I will never understand the obsession with this show or its former station. If it was worthy of the air, it would probably be here.

Kyle Missed The Memo

But Kyle, haven't you heard? "97.5 The Hawk lives on!"

(I don't know where, or how, or why, or when, but supposedly it does and Greater Media is the evil company that killed it-- even though it "lives on"-- and even though said company had absolutely nothing to do with its demise-- it's demise, even though it "lives on"...)

VodGod, why, pray tell, would a station emphasizing music (and less talk) be an "ideal" place to "return to Philly" a syndicated show that was never cleared on a Philadelphia station in the first place?

There is always something more special about a playlist that has been handpicked for you by a DJ that loves and knows the music, as opposed to a voicetracked computer on random.

I liken it to getting a hand-knit sweater from grandma for Christmas. Automation is like the scratch-off lottery tickets from drunk Uncle Gary.

Plus, if they're good, people relate to the personalities. Y100 was a great station because of their on-air staff. From Preston and Steve to Bret Hamilton, Matt Cord, Electra, Ben Harvey, Jon Von, even back to Adam Potts and LeeAnn Curtis. Even the weekenders didn't phone it in. If Radio 104.5 can do the same, people will click with the station.

well 104.5 does need a morning show mabye they could pipe in elllot from dc101

I disagree. Why, when their M.O. is "less talk, more music" would they spend the time, effort, and dollars on a morning show that has Preston & Steve, Opie & Anthony, and all the other morning shows in town stacked against it from the very start? It goes against their supposed mission to play more music, and it's going to get crushed anyway.

I'm not saying that they shouldn't try - I'm just saying that maybe it's wise for them to pick their battles here. Get some other personalities into the station first, see how it goes, and then in a couple of months think about jumping into that morning show rat race. Until then, blowing all your money and resources on what is sure to be a losing battle at first is not a really wise thing to do.

edit: i do see that you were referring to a syndicated show but I still don't think it's worth the resources. If this town wouldn't tune in even to listen to "The Philly Guys", why would they tune in to hear some schmoes from a station in D.C.?

I agree with you CarnyFeet. Not sure what Radio 1045 should exactly do in the morning, but I definitely don't think Elliott in the Morning would fit the way they've set the station up. I don't think a morning Yak fest is the answer either, though the talk based shows always seem to dominate.

Exactly. Normally, getting a good morning show would be priority #1. However in 104.5 case, anyone who likes to listen to some form of talk already has it with P&S, and O&A. 104.5 would be fighting a losing battle. Instead, they're doing the smart thing, by offering an "alternative" for rock fans in the morning by playing music. They will still get killed in morning drive by MMR and ysp, but atleast it isn't costing them a buttload of money.

Now with that said, if they're still around when P&S's contract with MMR is up. I would hope they would make a valid attempt to get P&S. Does anyone know when P&S contract ends with MMR?

I see no reason why MMR would let it get to the point where their contract is ever close to expiring. P&S have been a goldmine for that station.

I think I remember hearing P&S a while back mention they locked into a long-term contract.. dunno how long though.
