RADIO AND TV ANNOUNCERS ON ENDANGERED JOB LIST

I saw a list of 10 endangered jobs and yup radio is on it due to syndication due to new technology and other media sources. Let's look at the market by cluster and future possibilities:
Clear Channel: With the direction B101 and Coast are going, it's live morning shows only and if anything else local is done it's tracked by someone already a part of one of the morning shows. Does anyone think morning drive syndication is a possibility for either of these two? I doubt it but then I doubted a lot of other things would happen, and they did. As far as HJY I think any drive-time changes might result in live replacements but let's see who ends up programs the station.
Citadel: On air PDs now with Tony Bristol and (?) D-Pain?? Anyway the cluster is probably less apt to replace anyone with syndication during the day but again I repeat my poor track record with doubts about what could happen. I wouldn't rule out programming changes but don't think either PD would be leaving on his own given the job market out there. Still, dim prospects for future job openings unless there are PD changes.
Hall: The one owner right now not giving in and I assume they are still live on the overnight show. Future openings doubtful because if the staff is smart they know enough to stay put.
I'll toss in Fun 107 too but they've cut back and as usual are staffed by people who left and came back again so I guess if you didn't work there before and an opening comes up you won't work there.
Gotta wonder if New England Tech is still taking peoples' money to train them for radio.

New England Tech goes far beyond radio when it comes to schooling but I'm sure if you believe the Mike Rovin TV testimonial and are willing to pay, you'll get the training. The technical (production, computers, etc) end of it is valuable. No one is going to teach anyone to be good on the air anyway and the radio station of the future may eventually be a PD, a morning person, and then the ones adept at the production end of it.

And isn't D-Pain a muscle ointment?

If you haven't made a name for yourself in radio yet then you're not going to and if you've made a name for yourself, then you're a target. Either way you lose.

Does New England Tech even mention radio in their ads anymore? The training is still useful - you're just most likely not going to use it for radio. There's still going to be a need for audio production skills for the next generation of media (web streams, podcasts, syndicated programming, etc), not to mention I believe you receive video training at NE Tech in that program as well.

I think they just lump "radio and tv" together in their ads but let's face it if your goal in life is to become a jock, besides needing your head examined you're better off working at a college station then interning.

Speaking of the Post title, February is supposedly the anniversary of DePetro's contract. Tick.....Tick......Tick.......

I thought his numbers turned out pretty good. Now the question is whether or not WPRO let the Arby controversy slide because they couldn't really do anything with no guilt proven. If they choose just not to renew his contract then no guilt has to be proven. It can be chalked up to money.

Back to the unintended topic of this thread, any college that still teaches radio as it's own major should be stripped of it's accreditation. LOL... I think NE Institute Of Art in Boston combined their TV and Radio majors.

What the schools need to be teaching is "here's how to become a PD, MD, Afternoon, Production Manager, Webmaster...and video producer for the web." Because if you don't know how to do 4 of those 6...you're SOL.
