I saw a list of 10 endangered jobs and yup radio is on it due to syndication due to new technology and other media sources. Let's look at the market by cluster and future possibilities:
Clear Channel: With the direction B101 and Coast are going, it's live morning shows only and if anything else local is done it's tracked by someone already a part of one of the morning shows. Does anyone think morning drive syndication is a possibility for either of these two? I doubt it but then I doubted a lot of other things would happen, and they did. As far as HJY I think any drive-time changes might result in live replacements but let's see who ends up programs the station.
Citadel: On air PDs now with Tony Bristol and (?) D-Pain?? Anyway the cluster is probably less apt to replace anyone with syndication during the day but again I repeat my poor track record with doubts about what could happen. I wouldn't rule out programming changes but don't think either PD would be leaving on his own given the job market out there. Still, dim prospects for future job openings unless there are PD changes.
Hall: The one owner right now not giving in and I assume they are still live on the overnight show. Future openings doubtful because if the staff is smart they know enough to stay put.
I'll toss in Fun 107 too but they've cut back and as usual are staffed by people who left and came back again so I guess if you didn't work there before and an opening comes up you won't work there.
Gotta wonder if New England Tech is still taking peoples' money to train them for radio.
