Radio Campesina

I agree OMNI, it was all personal reasons coming from way up top and not at the office in Bakersfield. Although the weasel did say he was generating more revenue than last year they still were not breaking even. I strongly believe that this format is hard to sell and that is why they should have hired from day one an experienced GM that knows the format and the culture of the listeners in order to hire the correct sales staff.

Yes, looks like the never wanted KBDS to generate much. It was used like a tax write off/loss vehicle when there sister stations were making money. Now that more money is going out and a ton less going in, well now they kinda need money.

But think about this for a second. Why in the world would you (people have already pointed it out in this blog) go DARK and put the station for sale???

The weasel inquired the VP about an LMA/Purchase. They said no on LMA and from what I hear they are asking for 4.7M!!!!!! Looks like someone does not want it to be sold...I look at it as someone is trying to Squeeze someone out! Happens all the time. Its happening right now with the banks and auto companies. You get them so deep in debt, then the man with the less $$$$$ is out and the one with the most $$$$$ takes the company. "THE THE COMPANY IS ALL HIS" simple stuff. If you don't have any chips you need to step away from the table and game over.

The station did not do good or succeed because they never wanted it to do just that. Nothing to do with sales, programing or the slowing economic. :D

It was used like a tax write off/loss vehicle
That makes since, taking a station dark makes for a nice loss.

From what I hear they are asking for 4.7M!!!!!!
In their wet dreams! Radio Campesina management must be indulging
in a little to much wine!

Why in the world would you (people have already pointed it out in this blog) go DARK and put the station for sale???
Way to much wine! Management really needs to layoff the fermented grapes, they would be lucky to get $500,000 for 103.9, with its less than ideal signal over Bakersfield after blowing it up. Now it only has stick value, and a class A from economically depressed Taft, is not going to support a $4.7Million price tag even before the economic meltdown, a bank would be insane to lend that kind of money.

You are all wrong. You were all set up, if you think you know the reason for it going dark, it was all a set up from the top dogs to make everyone speculate. The "excuses" you heard about PLAY 103.9 closing was all a set up. All the chisme going around was to make everyone think the excuses were legit for the closure. The "bosses" are no dummies. One day you will all eat your words. Go volunteer at a soup kitchen and stop gossiping.....

. The "bosses" are no dummies. One day you will all eat your words.
You might want to take a break from the wine coolers! Radio Camesina management can be real jerks to do business with, just ask any engineer who needed access to transmitter shack in Taft, or the way they destroyed 1310 AM. No broadcaster worth their salt takes a station dark the way they did, especially after finally making a dent in the ratings with a rim shot with a marginal signal.

Stunts like that don't serve in the public interest, as they are licensed to do. I hope they filed a STA! and made no false statements.

No STA to be silent yet on file and since they've been silent less then 30 days, one isn't needed just yet.

radio campesina "rocks" no matter what. It made no sense going dark "true" ,everyone tried their best... especially the dj's, program director, the sales person was in for himself and didnt try hard enough on sales. Lesson learned. Campesina is in it for educating farmworkers and that's their goal through and through $ helps but it's not the goal.

OK Radio 100, KBDS was there to educate? c'mon! it's all about the money!!!! not about the $? the education? what did KBDS do about education? name 3 things that they did in the 4 years that they have been on the air.

Campesina does do some education but what do they do in their community to help? run psa's? what? food for the hungry on Thanksgiving? toys for the families that can't afford them for their own? blankets? NO, NO, NO. Oh wait, what if I am a business that wants do some of these things and wants to promote it on Campesina, sorry you can't promote this event on Campesina unless you are going to spend $.

If you know anything or anyone from this company that statement is true!

$ is the goal if that was not the case Campesina would be pro-active in the community and it is not!. Educating and helping the community!

We have all raised an eyebrow or two when discussing over a glass of wine the ethics of this company.

Si Se Puede!

Education was not on PLAY's format that is why PLAY is dark. Campesina does educate the listeners how whould you know gringo...
Campesina is having a hard time in bakersfield with people like john adams in town i bet you work for Buck Owen's. Listen to KNAI Phoenix and look at the number for campesina phoenix, they "ROCK" and the latinos in Phoenix are humble, not greedy like Bakersfield. Chisme is gossiper.

I am not talking about Phoenix I am talking about Bakersfield and since you mention Phoenix, Campesina phoenix sounds more like a commercial radio station and not a "non-profit" and as I understand, that is the station that generates the greatest revenue in your network. You "educate" the listeners by running a 1 hour show per day? wow that's great!

Let me ask you this, why are there less union members now then ever before? and don't say that they are not the same, they are all under the same umbrella and we all know that it is run by only one person.

Education was in PLAY'S format, after doing some research and talking to some freinds in the biz I found some articles in the bakersfield californian and online and it comfirms that they were they just never did anything.

Campesina is having a hard time in bakersfield
As it should, what goes around comes around! Campesina has always been hostile to its fellow broadcasters and listeners for that matter. I know what Campesina did to the 1310AM studio in Taft (Truly despicable the way they vandalized that facility), and the way they treated the Mann's who tried to do an LMA with them is unforgivable. A contract engineer said it was like pulling teeth trying to gain access to the 103.9 XMTR shack which shared space with the old CH 57 transmitter.

The sooner Campesina fails the better for broadcasting and Bakersfield, to suggest Buck Owens was greedy or any other Bakersfield broadcaster is just plain dishonest. I know firsthand, one broadcaster's wife spends a small fortune handing out gifts to children on Christmas eve. From wheelchairs to toys, she has donated quietly and without fanfare. Buck Owens was not only good to his people, but anybody he saw in need, also without fanfare. I was so impressed with Brad Buckley and way he treated others, I returned to the business after taking a break from dealing with a few to many backstabbing cutthroats in L.A. From what I have been told by those in the know, AGM, Buckley & Buck Owens work well with each other. Even those who have been let go, still speak well of their former bosses.

Campesina could learn allot from their fellow Bakersfield broadcasters, as I have over the years. They all give back to their community rather generously, compared to other broadcasters I know and have dealt with.

Education was in PLAY'S format, after doing some research and talking to some friends in the biz I found some articles in the Bakersfield Californian and online and it confirms that they were they just never did anything.
Oh yes they did! Campesina has taught us all how to run not one but two radio stations into the ground, and a fine job they did at that! One more to go and they are gone :)!

Campesina does more than anyone know's for the community. Who provides the farmworkers in the fields burritos's in the a.m.? Campesina does. Who gave away a home? Campesina did. Who gives turkey's for the needy farmworkers and not air it on the air? Campesina does. Who gives out gift certificates to needy farmworkers for x-mas and not air it? Campesina does. And so on and so on. These farmworkers are a big part of the community whether you like it or not. Campesina is on the air to educate them so they can stand up for their rights and not be victims for these growers that abuse them. There is so much to learn from radio campesina, no other station in Bakersfield gives good advice on air for farmworkers, Radio Campesina provides that. Radio Campesina takes care of their workers, if there is a disgrundled employee is becuase they brought it on themselves.
TAFT was ransacked because of the community. Get over it, Radio Campesina was one of the first NETWORKS, "viva radio campesina."
Admit it Bakersfield is a better place because of Radio Campesina.

This was written from the point of view of a Radio Campesina employee... no one else would know so much about the company.

When was the last time you gave out burritos in the am?. you gave away a house 5+ years ago. you are giving away turkeys and not on the air? prove it! certificates?. you cannot prove any of this. As a matter of fact we should ask people in Bakersfield if they know of anytime Campesina has done any of this for anyone?

I am sure that you have digruntled employess! c'mon! Buck Owens does 10x as much for the community than Campesina does and consistantley.

I have a question: What happened at Campesina? they were for the people and not just the farm workers but everyone, after the great Cesar E. Chavez passed away it turned into a blown out bussines and forgot about what he standed for.

TAFT was ransacked because of the community. Get over it
Let me get this straight; you finally admit Radio Campesina vandalized the 1310 AM studios in Taft, and it was because of the community.
Radio100 an obvious insider is telling us Radio Campesina destroyed a broadcast facility because of the community they were licensed to serve did something wrong? Wow!
Would you like to explain what the good people of Taft did to justify having their radio station vandalized by Radio Campesina. Can you believe a licensed broadcaster is admitting they ransacked the 1310AM studios because of the community, and telling us to get over it?

Admit it Bakersfield is a better place because of Radio Campesina.
In your dreams! Radio Campesina is an embarrassment to the broadcast community and the good people of Taft, your city of license and the people you are licensed to serve and have done nothing for. The sooner Radio Campesina gets it's license revoked the better as far as I'm concerned, and I think you just gave the ammunition to accelerate that process.

1310AM could easily have been donated to Taft college since you had no use for it, or at least have the equipment donated to a community group, no Radio Campesina would rather destroy it. I had the honor of meeting the gentleman who built 1310AM, he took allot of pride in building that station with state of the art equipment; including the prototype for Shaffer automation. Serving in the public interest was priority one, for the owner even if it never made a bunch of money, as long as it paid the bills and he could take a little home he was happy. I know he is very disappointed Radio Campesina.

Just before Radio Campesina wiped out 1310AM, it was back doing what it did best; serving in the community interest via LMA with RC. On a visit to Taft on another matter and what turned out to be the week just before Campesina had 1310 ransacked. I found a group of high school students in the studio, operating the radio station (under supervision), doing everything including play-by-play sports. I was so impressed with what I herd and witnessed, I drove 140 miles back to Taft the following weekend to hear some more of the talent and offer my support and remote equipment. On the Grapevine I tuned to 1310, I herd nothing but static, the station was off the air for some reason. To make a long story short; I could not believe the station that was so full of life the week before was silent, not only was it silent but the studios I stopped by were in ruin; somebody had destroyed it! I had to know what happened, it took allot of investigating, but I found out who did this to a great little hometown radio station. To my shock and dismay it turned out the folks at Radio Campesina had ordered the station be destroyed and had the right to do so according to the misguided sheriff. Up to this point, I never knew why Radio Campesina would do such a thing. Thanks to Radio100 I have the answer; it was the communities fault. I must say that is a new one! Kind of like the thirty-year-old ranch hand who blames the 10 year old for coming on to him for his criminal behavior.

Sorry Radio 100, I will never forget, but I will get over it when Radio Campesina has its license revoked.
By the way the last time I called Radio Campesina and asked where in Taft the public inspection file was kept, Radio Campesina management told me to get lost and it was none of my business where it was kept. Perhaps an inspector from the FCC will have better luck finding it than I did!

You may of thought you got away with it! Perhaps now is the time come to pay the piper. As hard as this economic meltdown may be on all of us, it will be worth it when if takes Radio Campesina down with it.

You wanna get the FCC on this? I have contacts with most of the Field Offices ;)

not an employee sorry to say. FCC files are all on the up & up, probably better than than any station in bakersfield, I've also done my homework. We are not talking about amatures here The "organization as you put it". Radio Guy and John Adams, what have you done for the community of Bakersfield? your all dj's i bet. Or want to be. Do you own a radio station? If not why not? If so what does it do for the community? What does any radio station in Bakersfield do for the farmworkers that pick our food to put on your table? It's hard work and they deserve a voice and if it takes radio campesina to do that (broadcasting on the air waves) then the "organization" deserves all the respect from me. I am proud to listen to 92.5. It's from the heart. "Help us love even those who hate us" So we can change the world. Radio Campesina will live forever and i am proud of that, never have I listend to a radio station up and down the county as powerful.
Let's not be so hostile and lets here the good comments of the network that serves the latino's so well.
