Yep...those are the classic "clear channel" (not the company) blow torch signals. Has anyone seen the Scott Frybush "tower sites" feature? They have some shots of the WBT 3 "diamond" towers....with one dating back to the 1930's As a kid growing up in New Britain, I was really impressed when the PD of (then) WHAY, Ray Lawrence, took me to the transmitter site in farmington. No building there in 1964..just the transmitter shack with a transmitter that had water-cooled finals. Amazing. the stations I work at now have an old Harris 1Kw they're thinking of getting rid of. The old Harris with 833's in it. I want to give it a good home in my basement and put it on the air on the 160m amateur band. That'll blow a neat signal and heat up my basement. Wonder what the neighbors would think??? Mute point since my wife doesn't like the idea. Fooey. Anyone else have some memories of tower sites in CT....like the legondery WTIC site on Avon Mountain and West Peak in Meriden. Ok, I'll really date myself this time...I worked the old 93.7 signal in the late 60's when it was called WLAE-FM. "Lend an Ear" Studios were in the transmitter shack on West Peak that also held the automated WHCN system at the time. WLAE had an ancient FM transmitter with glowing finals...especially when the bays ices up. Across the parking lot was (and still is) the WDRC FM site. Wow...digging deep in the grey matter for this stuff.
