Radio Disney to sell 1260

The real waste is that back in the '90's, an outfit call Radio AAHs started the all kids format and after having some success, Disney jumped in and drove them out. I believe Radio AAHs was strictly syndicated and could not keep up with the Disney cash being thrown at buying stations and marketing on the Disney cable channel. Plus Disney wasn't in it to make money - it was just part of the marketing budget where as AAhs was trying make a profit.

Disney was involved with AAHS in the beginning....when Radio Disney came on, AAHS filed suit claiming breach of contract..Disney eventually paid several million to AAHS in an out of court settlement

MRBI is not looking to add additional stations in the Boston area. Both stations are available online 24/7, in addition to the over the
air signals. Between WLYN and WAZN, we can cover a good portion of the metro area, though not all of it. It is a cost-effective
arrangement. WAZN actually has a stronger signal at night, (albeit with a different directional pattern) which is very unusual for
AM radio. WLYN daytime is heard within Rte. 128, and can even be heard fairly well on most of Cape Cod, as it blasts across open
ocean, from Lynn. I have even gotten WLYN signal reports from Norway and Spain.
I QSL 100% !!!

Glad you do QSL. Rarely is that done anymore by AM/FM radio. In fact DX'ers find it so rare, all they want as a minimum is for the station to email back: "Yes, that's us". WJIB/WJTO/WFAU have separate QSL photo cards (post-cards) which makes DX'ers really smile. I have sent a good number of them to Europe, too, especially Norway. DX'ing must be one of the top-10 hobbies in Norway. They take it pretty seriously there. - For one year (1965), I collected QSL cards from all stations I heard. They're on display at WJTO.

Those Norway DXers are so serious! I used to get a few every winter when I was at a class D AM in New England. I was always amazed when they'd pick us up at night power.

Well nowadays, they send mp3's of the actual reception, so such appears to be real. As to them hearing our Class D daytimers at night.... some of those could have been heard right before sign-off, as signals travel then. But there are always those DX'ers who have an extreme overage of luck compared to other well-heeled-receiver-DX'ers.

I started out in radio, as a ham operator. As such, I am glad to QSL any requests. You may also notice that both
stations here ID in Morse Code, as well as voice, after midnight. The ham in me thought that would be
wicked cool!) 73, de WA1RFF

It was suggested to him elsewhere, and he replied that he doesn't want to deal with the hassle and expense of maintaining that directional site. He'd rather stay with 740.

Would it REALLY be that much more of an effort to maintain 1260 than, say, WFAU?

Without putting words in his mouth, I'd guess that making repairs to WFAU's DA is a little more palatable when you consider the fact that the station, its equipment, and its 20 acres only cost $16,200. If WMKI were to sell for $20k, then I'd guess things would be different.

Hell, I'd pay $20k for WMKI. Maybe even $30k!

Another option would be to reduce power to, say, 500 or 1,000 watts non-directional with perhaps erecting a nighttime tower in the Boston - Lynn - Cambridge 'triangle'. Just a thought.

WMKI different than WFAU? You bet! Property taxes for one, and something I forgot to mention.... WMKI's selling price will be more.... something Brother Stair, not me, could afford.
