Radio Farda is up! Up! Up!

I'm catching Radio Farda, on 1575 kHz, for the first time this season and it has just come in the strongest I've ever heard it. It fades in and out, but with patience you may be able to snag it. Once again, I'm running my DX-440 barefoot, I'm about to switch over to my D5 and see if I can catch it with that.

On-line parallel here ~> http://www.radiofarda.com/audio/broadcastprogram/live.html

Happy hunting!

Are you picking up the jamming signal as well? 1575 has been jammed for a number of years in the Middle East.

Do you hear anything on 1548 and 1593?

Finally, I heard a very weak audio on 1575 and using the audio stream, I find that I was hearing Farda. If this is in Saudi Arabia, that would be around 6600 mile away from where I am.

RadioFan223,

I did hear very weak tones on 1548 and 1593 but no audio, perhaps from Kuwait, I don't know.

WHERE are you guys?

1570 is actually CLEAR in Puget Sound. Should make a search for it tonight.....

I'm in northern VA, just 30 SW if DC. There's a DC area 50 kW 1580 that is about 250 W at night, allowing the 1575 to be fairly clear here at night.

Any of you east coast DXers ever hear Capital Radio in London on 1548?
That is something I have never heard of. The answer is "never have heard", as a group of 1550's at night interfere with any 1548, including "La Buena" regional Mexican 1550, probably WDLR near Columbus, OH. I do hear a very weak tone on 1548 and that's all I hear.

1575 running Radio Farda is from UAE, not KSA. Interesting you aren't hearing any jamming signal as well.

1548 from Kuwait is 24/7, but half power during Kuwait day hours.

1593 from Kuwait is on the air from 1400 UTC to 0700 UTC.

radiofan223, hey, thanks for the info.

radioman148, I think I may have been a little too harsh when I said, "that's all I hear".

Just curious whether any others on the east coast like tincap have heard Capital on 1548?
He seems to hear the most TA signals.

I'd think this would be a pretty tough catch on this side of the pond. 97kw, but very tight pattern to the southeast. They fade rather quickly to the north and west of London, but come roaring into Germany at night. I've also heard them in Germany on daytime skywave.

My guess is the best bet for the UK might be 1089 (sports talk) if you can get out from under WBAL/KAAY.

I believe I've caught Capital Gold once (and posted it here), while trying to bag Radio Sawa, but I don't have a 'tick' beside it in my copy of WRTH. It's a 97kW signal, but my understanding is that it's very directional, making it a difficult catch. Now that CBE has left the AM band, monitoring of 1548 has become a little easier, but it can still be a busy place...

As for the jamming of 1575, I've never heard a distinct tone or anything of that nature. However, I have received Germany's 'OldieStar' who were 'jamming'. :D

Some of these guys have really great locations and antennas for TA DX.

Location, yes. But, I'm afraid I seriously lack in the antenna department, knowledge and equipment wise. :(

BTW, I'm hearing Farda (faintly) again tonight. Conditions are kind of interesting on 1575 (and 1548), as the semi local pests are not as prevalent, making it easier to null them out.

I'd think Brockville would be an ideal location. Small town...or perhaps more correctly small city...with no nearby big sticks or readily apparent massive noise sources. On top of that, you're far enough east to get in on TA DX, far enough south to snag stuff from the tropics, and far enough west to DX the Midwest and Prairies.

Especially since I'm north of town. I think most of the 'noise' actually comes from our (my wife's too) computer equipment, which needs to be running, because I do this hobby while working in our 'studio'. And yes, I'm certainly happy with the TA DX (although they're certainly not as strong and clear as kilokat's YouTube clips...I'm just happy to get them at all.). The Cubans come in, but are not a pest, as they can be for the folks down south, while I've had signals pop in from Columbia, Venezuela and Mexico. From the west/south west, WBAP has been a semi-regular, as has WCCO, WHO and Winnipeg's CBW, etc., but I've yet to bag some the other big fish further west, such as KSL or CBK. I'm working on it though and there's always the potential for a surprise in there...like reeling in Hungary's MR-1, while trying to bag CBK. ;D

Stateside, but the graveyard frequencies have been UP! UP! UP! lately. See my newer log threads for details, including my new GY record (KACH 1340 Preston, ID, 631 mi 1kw)
