Radio Havana missing on all frequencies

I never heard them on 9500, in the last few years, they used 15140 and one other frequency but thats ut

But yes it was about 15140

There was an hour where oman, cuba and akashvani were on the same frequency.

I wrote the indian government.. i did some research and found a government office that handled such matters.. and after a few go arounds, i got a letter saying that the particular akashvani broadcast on 15140 was being moved to another frequency. (mightve been 11760, but not clear on that)

Arnie told me in many more, semi polite words what amounted to "fuq off, screw the rest of the world" and Cuba wouldnt move.

WIOD still has that permit and it is due to on-channel non-NARBA approved stations on 610. The Cuban government itself (and WRH) list four stations on 610, including two with non-directional 10 kw power.

Actually, WIOD has relocated their transmitter to a site just off the Tamiami Trail west of Miami and now runs 50 kW. Beautiful looking build but in the Ever Glades. See Radio World for some pictures.

I wonder if the interference to WIOD continues?

As noted above, WIOD had been 5,000 watts day and night. But to combat the overpowered Cuban stations, the FCC allowed WIOD to go 50,000 watts days and 20,000 watts nights. That's a sizable boost in power!

Yes, as I said there are 4 stations on 610 in Cuba, two with 10 kw non-directional. That is enough to seriously hurt WIOD in fringe areas and the only solution is to push the fringe outward with more power.

It has been running higher power for over two decades, just as several other South Florida AM's have been allowed to do.
 
From what I can tell, WIOD's STA to overcome Cuban interference applied only to the 5 kW operation from the 79th Street site. The move out to Krome Ave is a fully licensed 50/20 kW with no more Cuban STA that I can find.

I should have figured that out. You can't get an STA if you are already at 50 kw! Dunce cap for me today!

i think i just heard a strong carrier for 6000 thats it, last night.. i havent heard anything but them or rebelde on 5025.. nothing else on 5040, 6165, 11mhz channels at all lately

Three generations of Cubans have grown up under one of the strictest Socialist regimes anywhere, so they are less likely than most to want a change. As long as the government can convince people that the problems are due to "Uncle Sam" and the Yankee Imperialists, there won't be a change.

I've checked them out but none pick up Cuba like Key West did.

I'm on the Edinburgh IN SDR; getting 530-Radio Enciclopedia, 570-Radio Reloj (surprisingly clear), At least one Rebelde on 670 under WSCR, Reloj on 950, and At least one Rebelde on 1180
 
Checking the Mandeville LA SDR, there are quite a few Cubans on the air now, including the ones gr8oldies mentioned.

Interestingly, I'm also hearing Radio Monumental in Quito Ecuador pretty clearly under WLAC.
 
I wonder if they are on generators at Reloj and Rebelde. I also wonder if Progreso is on the air at 640 and 890?

I doubt most are on generators, but a few may have them and have fuel. Part of the problem in Cuba is the lack of petroleum to run generators of any kind. Remember, all those national and local networks and local stand alone stations are all run by one government operation. Almost all AMs share towers with 2 to 3 other AMs in their zone, too.

Per NBC "On Friday evening, authorities announced power had been restored to about 20,000 residents of the capital, Havana, which has a population of 2 million. While demand for electricity has gone up, the supply of oil has been greatly limited. Cuba’s ally and main oil supplier, Venezuela, has decreased the amount of shipments it sends to the island. Oil shipments from other countries, like Russia and Mexico, have also been greatly diminished. "
 
I've only been in Cuba once, when the Ecuatoriana airlines plane from Quito to Miami I was on was hijacked and taken there in the late 1960's*, but with the urban dwellings so dependent on electricity it must be horrible.

One common thing in Cuba is to have a water storage tank on the roof of homes and apartments as preparedness for cases when the water is cut or rationed. Those use electric pumps, so anyplace with that system is not just without electricity but without water, too. I guess the residents climb up to the roof and take buckets of water out.

* Since the Cuban government was trying to be friendly to all Latin America, while the airline paid off the "ransom" landing fee, in the morning we were taken on a bus tour of La Habana ("No, you can not get off...") and driven to a new communal sugar plantation and then to a typical seaside government park where they had a buffet, live typical Cuban music and, of course, speakers who welcomed us to the "first free territory in the Americas" and told us how we should tell everyone back home in Ecuador about what a great job Castro was doing.
