Radio in Atlanta needs some change, but what does it need?

Atlanta radio needs some changes, 1 agree, and I think that the big guys are looking for a move but they don't know which way to move to. I mean moving the way the listeners want them to move. You see we have movers and we have those staying the same. Without keeping up with the changes, you might wind up being just a memory down the road. We have some good people for radio in Atlanta and we keep getting rid of them (CC is a good example of this). But with all of the changes right now on all the stations, it might be good to sit and wait, while the other dogs dance 1st, so who knows anymore where to start?

I agree Atlanta radio needs major changes:

1. Purge all non left-wing talk radio (i.e. The Pig Man, Neonazi Boortz, Sean Insanity, The Great Stupid One, and Michael Whinner)

2. Bring back the greatest local talk show host, in the Atlanta area: Mike Malloy.

3. Put a 50,000 watt, four tower, non-directional, three pattern, all day, all night, Liberal radio station, which has Sam Seder, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Mike Malloy!!!

Now there's a recipe for success. Don't quit your day job.

Sounds like a ratings winner. You should be a PD.

Kill off all the established talent with ratings and build a new station around radicals. Sounds like a sound way to do business.

Is the guy who used to own Air Amrerica?

Hey Aeris-

I'd like to build that puppy for you.....I've been tellin' radio folk for years that 50,000 watt, four towers, non directional, 3 patterns was the way to get ratings.
I'd use windCharger towers, in a dogleg, with an above-ground ground system, built in a pond, with a water/salt mixture plus a small component of gold dust.
I would also reconstruct the 4th dimensional space time continum oriented towards Mecca optimizing photonic behavior but only in the negative phase. This will be optimal transmission facilities for the Randi Rhoades show but some fanageling of the quadrature dongle will be necessary for Mike.
Is that you Kathy??

Atlanta needs a personality. Atlanta needs a host with something other that a political agenda. Right now we do not have one and Atlanta is definitely ripe for one. Malloy has an agenda, so he will not work. We need a host that is capable of taking the listeners on a mental journey making them laugh out loud, making them mad. Someone that can abuse to the delight of others. We need an entertainer.

I wanna do the polka show during the hours when the critical hours array is on...only if it can be 5 towers non directional. I figur if we put a tower in Cobb, another in Gwinnett, one in Dekalb, Fulton and maybe Henry county, running 50k into each, that sucker'll really cover the market. I need AM stereo tho.

Kenneth, what is the frequency?

Jeeze, I dunno. Either 540khz for great groundwave, or 1700khz for great skywave. My vote is 1700. Maybe throw in some Kahn Powerside too.

So how is Mike's show doing?
Why not get Mike's network to buy time on WGUN? For the right price, a large block of time could be contracted, which would be beneficial to all concerned. I think you could do it cheaper than you might imagine....time could be bought for $400-450 per hour. With some good sales support.....and, of course, loyal listeners, some money could be made.
Time at night would be much cheaper....the station is only 300 watts for the first hour after sunset and then 70 watts, until 6AM. But the coverage is not too bad! The transmitter is near South Dekalb Mall and the station can be heard 5-6 miles without too much interference. It would be a great black talk format signal....it hits many of the upper demo S. Dekalb zipcodes.
Can be heard at night in midtown. For enogh money the transmitter(night) could be moved to midtown!

Tom Hughes is your man. Instead of Rick and Bubba, WSB should have put Tom into development. On the other hand, if they were in fact blocking R&B from CC, I concede to the effort, even though I didn't particularly care for the show's debut. Please don't reply with a load of crap about TH, the radio connoisseurs among us are tuned into his style which doesn't appeal to double-digit IQs.

Yeah, development. Radio is big on that. Handing out development deals as if they were mints.

How about a Christian CHR station? Oh... I too would like it on four towers please!

Putting Air 1 or Way FM on one of the Christian stations at the bottom of the dial would probably be a sure fire winner. I say go for it.

I love that you previously did this for 88, Tom. That's why we keep you around. Well, that and all the cheesy trailer trash music. ;D

If Mike Malloy is the greatest Atlanta talk show host, why did Air America FIRE him? Is it a vast Right Wing conspiricy? And no, that post was not from the previous owners of Air Atlanta, they aren't as left wing as you would think. They have moved on to other projects that make money.... (And yes, I still work for them). They were thinking of bringing Air Atlanta back on another frequency, but have since decided that Polka is the way to go.
