Radio in Atlanta needs some change, but what does it need?

If Mike Malloy is the greatest Atlanta talk show host, why did Air America FIRE him? Is it a vast Right Wing conspiricy? And no, that post was not from the previous owners of Air Atlanta, they aren't as left wing as you would think. They have moved on to other projects that make money.... (And yes, I still work for them). They were thinking of bringing Air Atlanta back on another frequency, but have since decided that Polka is the way to go.

I remember when Malloy left WSB for basically going crazy on air. He was doing a show on race relations and just started blurting out a string of "n-words" one after another. I don't remember the details (this was 93-94), but the whole show was insane and he wasn't on WSB for much longer.

I do remember he was more entertaining than Rush, but not as much as Boortz.

I agree Atlanta radio needs major changes:

1. Purge all non left-wing talk radio (i.e. The Pig Man, Neonazi Boortz, Sean Insanity, The Great Stupid One, and Michael Whinner)

2. Bring back the greatest local talk show host, in the Atlanta area: Mike Malloy.

3. Put a 50,000 watt, four tower, non-directional, three pattern, all day, all night, Liberal radio station, which has Sam Seder, Thom Hartmann, Randi Rhodes, and Mike Malloy!!!

Wow...acting like a caricature of a liberal, saying ridiclous things as a way of venting your polical agenda, without getting flagged...how pathetic. Fortunately, no one on this board is stupid enough to take your bait...oops never mind.

What you're all overlooking is that, while there's certainly room for improvement on the AM dial, the real vast wasteland right now- talentwise - is FM mornings.

Let's take stock:
Bert (strictly for young girls)
Steve and Vikki (strictly for soccer moms)
Frank Ski (strictly for black people)
Mayhem in the AM (strictly for those inside the perimeter)
99X (strictly for...well, I haven't figured that out yet, but it's not good).

What are Dave, The River, and Project waiting for? "More Music" ain't gonna cut it. Never has. And there's lots of available Atlanta talent right now if they don't want to roll the dice with some unknown.

Who?

Who?

Buy out David Paul's contract in chickenville, cast him with some sidekicks ( plenty to go around ) and turn him loose. He's hamstrung out there in the woods.

He's gotten over whatever 'bug' he had ( re:meltdown@GST) and he sounds like he's hitting his old strides. At least the soccer moms will be furious!

I agree. He’s more entertaining than anybody on the air in Atlanta now.

I agree that David Paul has a good show. To bad I can't hear him unless I am sitting in front of my computer.

John Allan,

I agree with you. If Mike Malloy is sooo great, why has'nt he or the new network he is on being picked up here?
I used to work for the guys that owned Air Atlanta as well and they like other business people are in business to make money! Atlanta DOES NOT NEED MIKE MALLOY!

Don't need to purge them all. But some kind of variety would be nice. There's got to be something interesting out there on the talk front besides hate radio (left, or right). At least Franken had a good sense of humor when he was on. Is the guy who does the paranormal show still on??

Ian Punnett in Minneapolis is pretty good.
He got stuck with those idiots at WGST in the late 90's (Bob Houghton and Nancy Somebody).
He received a really bad deal in Atlanta.

Well, there sure is a lot of comments on this subject. I think that radio in Atlanta is about to get cranking again! We all agree it is long over due and I bet there will be some people in Atlanta soon that you may not know now, but soon we will all enjoy. There is a station somewhere who is setting up to take over Atlanta again soon, but who will it be? Who will take that next step to find the promise land? We will see who has guts, and we will see who tries to stay under the radar. Sometimes staying under the radar you hit the side of the hill, and die out!

Heard about new talent, new radio station that will shake up the Atlanta market. Can"t wait to hear how they change oh hum radio as we know it now in this market. The suprise will be the talent,it will be just that,NEW!Look at this way,if the NFL only traded players team to team and never brought people up from college where would the NFL be?Well, welcome to Atlanta radio where all we do is get talent from other stations or other markets, some good but others same old same old.Looking forward to the NEW talent and station.GOODLUCK!

Sounds like a ratings winner. You should be a PD.

If not the PD, he could certainly be the CE!
