Radio In the moment Brian Wilson

I wouldn’t have expected WOGL to go wall to wall Beach Boys. But one song an hour or even a 60 second tribute with snippets from different Beach Boys songs would have been nice.

The station stopped playing that music about 20 years ago. 60s pop music appeals to the 70+ demo. That's not where WOGL is.

As we've said in other threads, WOGL has a major demo problem right now. The audience is way too old. Playing 60 year old songs wouldn't help.

There are lots of other stations in Philadelphia that played that music. No reason to play it on WOGL.

Latecomer here to the thread and haven’t caught much radio for a few days but I was wondering if anyone knows if WVLT, WMID or WHTG did any Beach Boys tributes this week? Obviously these are all Jersey stations but they’re all discussed on the Philly board from time to time and I would think that these 3 stations would be most likely to pay tribute.

For those keeping score...While ALT 104.5 (WRFF) certainly didn't play any Beach Boys, afternoon jock Jammin' Jessie did stop and acknowledge Brian's passing on the air.

Pierre Robert played an hour of The Beach Boys on WMMR, and even dug some old station IDs from the group.
It was such an amazing and timely tribute. I smiled when he played the vinyl cut of 'Good Vibrations' to close the set.

Call me crazy, but I actually love it when the DJ (or host) can cut in live at a moment's notice and switch up the playlist, even momentarily. It's the little things like this that keep me listening.

I already explained to you why 98.1 didn’t play any Beach Boys songs. Go to Ben FM’s recently played songs list and tell us how many songs from the 60’s they’ve played.
Sorry. Totally disagree. What will happen when Paul McCartney dies? Just songs by Wings? If you are Classic Hits and have a history of playing this music...even if you don't regularly play it....it isn't going to kill you and use one of radio's greatest strengths...immediacy....to be in the moment. At least MMR and MGK got it right. Neither play Beach Boys music but understood what Brian Wilson meant and reacted correctly.
