Bull... In most households with anyone over the age of 35, the radio (or clock radio) goes on for cancellations.

How do you watch tv and take a shower at the same time? You don't. I don't have time to sit in front of the tv and watch the scroll or log on for the list. I can get the info while I get ready for my day.

What happens when the kids get dismissed early. Today there were a few afternoon cancellations, which by the way, were not posted on a couple of the sites I visits (like wtvh.com). Sitting at my desk, I don't have a tv. Again, radio wins.

The purpose of my post was to state that terrestrial radio delivers local DTI (discretionary time information). Radio off the bird can not.

But then again, who am I... I'm certainly not Brian Ocean.

Re: Here comes satellite

Buh-buy 50% of your already gone audience. Did anyone hear Stern play "Deperado" for the free air stations? Did you get it?!
No you are not, whoever you are. But you defend the business and spin well which is why the business cant survive on so much BS anymore. Do some work, get real, and stop BS'ing everyone. Who you call "the dumb listeners" are starting to notice. The only listeners that were informed of their school closing on their clock radio was the one that happened to catch Chris Weidman reading it off for the ten seconds before snooze or off was hit. Try to look at actual habit before you make your spin. Most of us sniper the clock radio, look at what youre selling. If programming departments had anything to say, with thoughtful people saying it, radio would be a lot better off today. Stern uses a lot of thought, gets his way against the sales department on a regular basis, and thats the key because if you look past your nose, he has already messed you up a lot. For radio's sake, lets hope the "die-off" in a year gives you any chance. I would say Stern knows how to cover you on that one too. Next step is all of the recordings of his first show Jan 6th being played and traded by average people. Theres a tip, i suggest you dont think its the last from me. A legend in my own mind...lol.
______________

Ocean, for those of us....

who live in houses that don't have wheels, morning radio listening can occur on more than one radio...clock radio in the bedroom, counter radio in the kitchen, shower radio in the bathroom. Even a walkman while walking the dog. If you think I am going to pay to replace all those radios with Sirius (and don't give me the BS about the portable head units), just to hear Howard say the F word, you are Siriusly mistaken. Will there be people that do this, absolutely, but I don't think it will be as many as you think.

Re: Ocean, is one of us....

What does my home have anything to do with it. A nice gotcha? About the only thing you have. Im serious, from all of those years you told people that getting fired "looms over everyones head all of the time" im telling you. After all of the years of your crying, its gonna happen. You or your boss can sit back and say "oh, the DJ will never go away". But actually, he went away a long time ago. When was the last request you played on the air? Everyone craps on radio and Stern is (and has already) taken what was left. You guys are going to be delt a final blow soon. There wont even be a spin left. If you are at a station, wolf disney radio for many stations is what i see. Budgets will require it.
Oh by the way whoever you really are. 3 radios on in your house in the morning? Are we a bit obsessed? Average people in apartments and trailers, which represent real massive numbers by the way, torpedoed the snooze then turned on Channel 9. You cant get good numbers while having these core ideas which you have written about here with a secret name. Local radio needs something normal to happen to it. Hope your house is paid for.
______________
