Radio Now @ 100.9

Now what happens to Ann & John? Please don't tell me they're getting the boot as part of this deal...

Good move by Radio One. Knowing that somebody would fill the CHR hole, the company struck to get a hold of the brand (which they can strategically program far enough away from WHHH). Their local porfolio now seems more consistent across the board, and they're investing in a station that pulled big numbers compared to the mediocre ones attained by WYJZ.

Well, so much for the smooth jazz....good move for WYJZ. Wonder if the deal included a new callsign?

They'll likely have to petition the FCC before being granted new calls, but I can't imagine them not getting new calls.

Interesting - looks like Radio One bought the old imaging package too. Just heard a sweeper that said "Radio Now 93.1." They'll have to change those....

So now what is running on 93.1 - HD2? Oribital again? Or has WIBC taken that spot?

I disagree with this particular point. As for Radio One's brand consistency in this market, I think this switch breaks even. Smooth Jazz had a significant black audience and most of them P2 on WTLC-FM [or were P1 on 'TLC and P2 on YJZ] so they were keeping their flippers The listenership's overall household income was higher than the other R-1 stations, which was good for sales, though they were starting to age off the chart. Radio Now is an equally good fit, just at the other end. If they had enough frequencies to have both, both would still be good fits.

Don't get me wrong. I think this is a great move for R-1. A true shocker though!

I heard it would be moving to the lower 100's band with my earlier post, I just assumed it would be at 101.9. However, this will be a great move as you said.

Radio One will be able to control the Young Contemporary Scene in Indy now with Rhythmic CHR @ 96.3 and Pop CHR @ 100.9. Entercom will still do well with ZPL just because the money will still land there, but Radio One will show this off to their investors and that makes them happy. Of course its an Anglo station so they will have to "Kill It Softly" but it will still do well for R-1. Wonder who will take on the PD stripes?

If Russ is smart, he should take 101.9 and move it into a Smooth AC hybrid. Call it Smooth 101.9, The best in Lite Favorites and Smooth Jazz.

I was very happy to see R&R quote Emmis/Indianapolis VP/market manager Tom Severino as saying former RadioNow talent will be released from their noncompetes should Radio One want to hire them.

One has to assume that John and Ann are gone. Not a mix for the Radio Now target.

Why must they play: "RadioNow.. now.. on one hundred point nine" over and over.. non stop.. as if it's a subliminal message?

Perhaps because the PD learned about this 10 minutes before air time & that's the best he/she could do on short notice? Nah...that'd never happen.

Why move it to a not Emmis Radio station in the city?

Interesting...or is was was 100.9 not Emmis?

100.9 is owned by Radio One, not Emmis.

Edit: that Radio Now repetition is just loud enough to be annoying during the music.

Or from a 50 something's perspective, the music is loud enough to be anoying over the RadioNow repetition.

Hey Bob, you do have to admit though that the processing doesn't sound half bad, right?

For being crammed down an ISDN line from 40 Monument Circle to the Radio One building, it doesn't sound half bad At least they have the RDS working on 100.9 correctly. I think 93.1 still said RadioNow last night.

Why didn't they just re-transmit from an HD-2 reciever tuned to the 93.1 frequency...as that is what they were running out there. It would have been a decent use for an HD receiver, quite possibly the most productive use to date in Indianapolis.

All that HD Technology.. someone would have actually had to think outside of the box!

Do you think that Radio One could actually be originating music from their building?

I do not wish the week I've had upon anybody... ever... ;)

Losing Radio Now 93.1 was like losing a child. When you spend so much time and effort into your passion and it disappears one day, it's a downer. I am thankful for all the listeners that felt that Radio Now was lost from their lives as much as it was for me.

Thank you to Emmis for bringing me to Indianapolis from Tulsa to be a part of something truly special...Thank you to Radio One for bringing back something I believe so much in.

Not sure when we'll meet again, but to this board... good or bad... "Thnks Fr Th Mmrs."

I'm shocked too.

Radio One only targets the Black Audience and they just sold off a bunch of stations including two Pop ones they deemed non core.

Wonder why they didn't go gospel and move WTLC-AM to black talk instead.
