Radio Now @ 100.9

100.9 is owned by Radio One, not Emmis.

This is not the first time Emmis has sold intellectual property to Radio One. Remember when Emmis bought WTLC and turned it into B105.7? Radio One bought the format from Emmis to put on the present TLC frequency.

Hey Bob, you do have to admit though that the processing doesn't sound half bad, right?
I'll concur with that...the audio has a rich, consistent sound. I'm way outta the demo, but I still know good audio when I hear it. I wonder how badly my friends Ann & John were shafted in this deal?

The only part of the whole change no one directly addressed. I think there was a mention of none core. The core is simply put the racial element.

I can't believe they might be bringing more white people [EDIT] in the building given their highly reported effort to [EDIT]and hire African American employees. Read Radio Ink articles by Vince Fruge', Alfred Liggins and his old mom for reference.

They didn't like white staff showing up at remotes in the hood. This isn't reverse discrimination - it's discrimination. This is an element that Radio One has been able to openly undertake. Kind of like the Klan owning a station and no one saying the obvious.

The core audience of WHHH always crossed WTLC and that's why Shirk set Kiss up years ago to help torpedo WTLC. Anyone with any marketing push could ahve used the format to go against WHHH and WTLC.

Despite their numbers the ad agencies don't buy black. This is the other racial element. Their numbers are up but not the bottom line in proportion to underforming WZPL and the other FM they own no one listens to.

[EDIT-inflammatory]

Dont be too surprised to see Radio One to eventually jump ship in Indianapolis. While its nice having the city under their belt, its not core to them.

Maybe Russ could pick up the cluster. I know that R-1 wants another FM in Las Vegas to power sell the combo, he could swap the FM in LA for the combo and some cash in Indy. That would give him a stronghold on the state.

The Radio One gm says 3 people are out. Probably Ann, John, and Carl Frye. Carl had been there since Bill Shirk started the station and previously worked for Shirk on WHHH & WXLW.

How bout Ann & John AM drive at WIBC-FM?

I just noticed that Radionow 100.9's audio processing is hammering a hole in the dial lately. Big, thick, fat tight bass, almost too much at times... but remember is is a CHR, good highs and a midrange that's always there. Vocals are clean. The things loud as hell too. If Don Payne is their engineer, that is his signature sound from when he was back at ZPL in the 80s/90s. One of the best sounding CHRs of all time. Anybody else notice?

'Nads to the WALL'... It drives us ENG's up the wall, but in CHR, it total 'Two invisable hands grabbing you by the ears and shaking the Bee-ells-auh-bub out of year ten pound bowling ball with two ears, two eyes and a thing called the brain.."..... I remember how I loved: Q105-Tampa, WMET-Chitown, Y100-Miami and KSLQ-St.Louis sounded.. Loud and proud and 'take no prisioners' attitude... ;D

Yep, Payne is the engineer for R1 Indy, and he KNOWS how to make a station sound great without overdoing it. When it was smooth jazz, I thought it sounded excellent, and he told me that there was very little processing used..sure could have fooled me, but when you have good equipment to work with, it makes life a whole lot easier. I don't think he was all that thrilled about inheriting 1310 AM, but he even has that station sounding pretty decent.
