Radio-One buys time on Clear Channel?

I did not hear this. A friend of mine said that there was an advertisement on WTAM for the Gospel music station WJMO now on 1300AM. That's unique.
If one Clear Channel station promotes another, that's no big deal, but when another commercial operator wants to buy time on anothr commercial operator's station in the same market... and it's accepted, that's something. It must be that the powers-that-be don't look at the other station as direct competition or any significant competition at all, nor does CC have any fear of this potentially swaying the ad dollar pendulum in any significant way. This could also be an indication that radio sales are still in a bad way. Any other instances of this occurring in other markets?

WTAM actually bought airtime on the old WERE/1300 back in 1999 to carry Cavaliers draft night coverage (as WTAM itself was tied up carrying an Indians game). It was jokingly billed as "Cavs Draft Night from the Big One... on the 'Little One' - WERE 1300."

And since I heard the ad during a Cavaliers game, it's WJMO that's buying airtime for the Cavs Radio Network that's clearing on the entire network. So it's not buying airtime on WTAM... but on even more non-co-owned stations.

I heard this ad the other night.

It is not a spot promoting WJMO, but it's promoting some sort of gospel concert that WJMO is sponsoring. I believe the concert is at Quicken Loans Arena, so it may well be part of the deal to put it on the Cavs Radio Network.

The call letter/name mention is a bit prominent, but it's not a "listen to Praise 1300!" spot, it's a concert spot.

Speaking of 1300, they are running the Cleveland Gladiators this year. Is the returned Arena League football team giving up on Akron as far as the radio call goes? WKNR's signal down here isn't the best at night, depending on what part of town you live in, but at least you can hear it.

Wasn't 1300 refered to as "The Pin Wheel" by Rick Gilmore?

Yes it was... back when WERE/1300 was in the midst of its' all-brokered programming format. Gilly, if you remember, was the original co-host of "Beer Talk" on Saturday nights - and had his own solo show on Sunday night/Monday morning. He was fired in June of 1997 after reading Allen Ginsberg's "Howl" live, on the air, after midnight during his show (which proved there was at least SOME quality control over there).

Then just weeks later, WTAM begged him to come on the air after Morton Downey, Jr.'s stormy departure.

He referred to WERE as the "little pin wheel, blowing up the breeze..."
