Radio Personalities: Obsolete or Not

If they don't get ratings, they get fired. It's not based on some subjective view of having something to say.

No they don't. There are plenty of middling stations with crappy hosts that keep doing what they're doing, following some decades old formula that doesn't work anymore.

Obsolete.

Radio today seems to be run by a bunch of old-timers doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results.

I am not forgetting. That was my point. Steve Harvey has a team of sidekicks and writers on a team designed to give the show content. And content is what is missing on the vast majority of shows I hear on the radio, especially outside of the morning drive.
And only syndicated shows on many stations can do that in today's economy. Single local stations, even in markets of considerable size, can't afford this.
BigA is the one who brought up Steve Harvey in a ridiculous attempt to twist my point. There's a lot of talk on the radio from hosts with nothing to say.
And in most cases, they are talking when they shouldn't. This is not the 50's or the 60's when "DeeJays" were "your friends on the radio". Our friends are on social media now, and we can text them, too.
Recycled jokes from the internet, snarky comments, or worse. That kind of host is indeed obsolete, it's part of the reason listeners have fled broadcast radio, and that's the subject of this thread.
Yes, there are some announcers on stations and in dayparts where it is inappropriate to talk or improvise. But the decline in one-to-many services is due almost entirely to the availability of "your own playlist" which broadcast radio can not do.
So tell that to your bestie instead of jumping to his defense by default every time.
BigA is naming one talent. There are a number of national ones, like Bobby Bones or Charlemagne, and many regional ones that do a good job and who have original content and entertaining styles.

Maybe you can be specific. Who are you talking about? You want people to get fired because you don't like them?

Not going to list examples of something that is ubiquitous. If you can't hear it for yourself, and if you're involved with content that goes on the radio, then that's the problem right there.

This is another example of TOMM condemning based on his own personal evaluation of other stations and DJs without considering what people who are not like him want to hear.

Except you said the same thing.

Read what I wrote.

What I actually wrote is different from what you say I wrote.
Well let's talk about that.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that aside from your big clients/employees, you're not paying all that much for most of your talent. Let's say I'm a medium market level jock with potential, but not quite at the level of a Steve Harvey or Ryan Seacrest. What's my offer from you? I'm betting it is "the salary ain't that great, but with remote money and some endorsements you might be able to get by" at best.

Or you wouldn't even return my call because I'm not good enough for you.

All you've proven is you don't like what you hear. You can't name one, but you're willing to make an empty generalization.

When people do that to your favorite music, you cry fowl.

And with BigA's excellent "Free Advice" I am closing this thread as it has become personal.
