Have you guys noticed that 1540 am (I think the call sing is KGBC). Its called Radio Uncion a Religious station. I think they are on only in the morning. Just thought I let you all know!!

With all due respect to you or anyone else interested, I personally fail to care about daily spanish format topics, I believe there is a board for that.

Over 25% of the Houston MSA is Hispanic. There are over 22 shares in the PPM going to Spanish stations. The particular station being discussed here is in Houston.

I don't care about rock stations, but this is the place to discuss Houston rock formats. It is also the place to discuss Spanish language formats in the market.

By the way, "Spanish formats" are on stations in Spain.

According to your formula, my station is apparently (unknown to myself), in England.

I do believe I mentioned that I spoke with respect to your views, I certainly don't appreciate mud slinging.

An English station would be in England. An English language one could be anywhere.

I do believe I mentioned that I spoke with respect to your views, I certainly don't appreciate mud slinging.

I fail to see any mud slinging.

I stated:

Each person, according to their taste, will be interested in different stations. My taste, being obviously different from yours, will make me interested in stations you probably don't care for or about. And vice versa. That is a statement of fact.

Since the market gives 22 shares to Spanish language formats, about one in four persons is going to be interested in the goings on of the Houston Spanish language stations. That would mean that the subject has a reasonable expectation of being discussed on the Houston board. More facts.

Spanish is a language, not a format. And Spanish stations are in Spain. Another fact.

Just because you start your sentence with all due respect, doesn't mean what you are about to say isn't rude. For example, if you tell a girl: "With all due respect, your butt looks really really BIG in those jeans". You might get you face slapped.

Just by posting on this topic when you had no interest in it, means you came here to do some mud slinging.

If you are not interested in the topic, choose another one to post on.

What I find most interesting is that Clear Channel's KLOL, which happens to be run by a bunch of Gringo's, seems to understand how to appeal to Houston Hispanics better than Univision and Lieberman, at least according to the latest PPM data.

I don't believe the "gringos" are the ones over the air and making the music selection. Last time I checekd, the PD was not Gringo. But the onwers where.

Well then it is not a religious station, It's more of a program in the station.

Well its kind of like Biz Radio on 1320. Biz radio buys air time and so do the other people not sure what language that is. The same here, in the morning RAdio Uncion buys air time. And they have people pay to have their programs in it. After that, the other language takes over.

You're probably right;the owners are Gringo's, the Market Manager is a Gringo and KLOL's GM is a Gringo, but I doubt any of these people have any say so !

So......since this thread was once about KGBC, what has happened to "Hum Tum City"? Did they lose another station?

Does anybody REALLY use the term "Gringo" any more, Easy Money?

Turn down your eight-track and tune into the fancy new HD radio. Amazing stuff, that technology.

As to your actual point, as a radio outsider, I'm LMAO that you white boys are whipping Univision's butt. That's good stuff. I watch their tv (my wife is from Mexico) and all they do is promote their programming. And y'all are STILL beatin em. I gotta say, hats off.

Yep. It is the standard term for European looking, non-Spanish speakers in Latin America. It is also used for very fair skinned people who are also Latin American... I had a schoolmate in Ecuador who was called "El Gringo" Mantilla because he was very fair, with blonde hair.

Yeah, the one that I haven't heard in a very long time is "gabacho". I think this is the word you may be referring to.

I think it all depends of the kind of people you hang around with. I use the word Gringo alot!! My friends use Gabacho, so I think it depends on the person.

Well, that's too broad of a specification. Under some of my observations, Gabacho is used by many Mexican Americans that have well established roots here in the US, while Gringo is used mostly by 1st generation and their off-springs. In other words, by people who have strong ties to Mexico. Never heard any one from the rest of Lating America use the word Gringo. Only Mexican Descent.

I think I am gonna go watch my "Dirty Harry" DVR... I need to get all this "slang' out of my body........and laughing at it will does it for me....(SMIRK)
