Radio Versions That Annoy

They (WSEA) must have played the Rolling Stones Satisfaction from the Hide Tide and Green Grass Stereophonic "Blue Label" LP copied it to Reel or Cassette or played directly from the LP. Remember in the 70s nothing was on a digital format. On the CD it comes from the Long Playing Album "Red Label". For the Shout edit, last time I heard that was on 99.5 KISS in 1990.

I disagree. But I like to have both the Edits and the full version of the song.

Although a 90s hit, Stereo MC's Connected is played on Austin's 103.5 BOB FM along with 70s Chicago 25 or 6 2 4 both are edits, I wish BOB FM would play the full length versions of those songs once in a while. I still have the Connected cassette single I bought at Musicland in 1993 which they sold for $1 still in great condition despite repeated plays.

A lot of the AC Stations in the 90s played the edited version of Hall and Oates Kiss is on my List, also as of today no station plays the full version or the reprise version of B52's Love Shack, just the edit at least that I know including those "Point" stations.

Whoever decided to put those sound effects in "Susan" made a huge mistake IMO. The song sounded much better without it.
 
Whoever decided to put those sound effects in "Susan" made a huge mistake IMO...ditto..played that the other night on my show and had forgotten about the train wreck in the song..what were they thinking..?? is haven't researched it...but is there another version without the noise in there ???
 
Considering the timeframe, maybe they were trying to throw in a psychedelic sound to fit in with the psychedelic music period. There will always be people to this day who try to make a shoe fit when it just ain't happening. Pass the Avon.
 
I had considered that idea..has plausibility...given the 67ish music happenings..but sure seems out of place with their other hits...don't have the charts in front of me..but wasn't Susan their last hit worthy of note ??
 
I think so - 1968. I was thinking that while the psychedelic sound was big they were still trying to make it with sunshine rock. If that is the case "Susan" is a pretty good example of what happens to a fish out of water. The sound just isn't there.

That's exactly what they were trying to do. I remember Clark Weber the morning man & PD at WLS saying after he played it the first time what a good song it would be if they'd just remove that stupid sound effect train wreck out of it.
 
97.1 here in Nashville has an annoying habit of butchering the ending of "Amie" by the Pure Prairie League. I'm sure that there is a single mix out there of that one that probably fades out, but they let it go into the acoustic "falling in and out of love with you" part near the end, but they always cut it off before it actually gets to the very end. Songs that have a definite ending (as opposed to a fadeout) should be allowed to finish, NOT be cut off! :mad:

the versions of that song on the radio here have the same problem .i think that is a version that many if not all stations get.probally another contribution by radio consoltants.
 
I cannot believe than no one has mentioned the 45 version or Goldisc version/slaughters of Jefferson Starship's Miracles. The band hated the single edit which makes no pretense of a cold ending just a quick fade

Likewise for those same effects on the Beatles "A Day In The Life".....was I wrong In editing out those sound effects for both those songs "Susan" and "A Day In The Life" for Air Play"? And I also clipped down the two false endings on the McCoys "Come On, Lets Go". I also altered "Beyond The Sea" to EQ down the Crescendo's In the Middle of the song. Nelson Riddle used those same cescendo's on most of his Sinatra recordings, drove me crazy.

Methinks the dissonant orchestration in "The Day in the Life" was by design, and an afterthought for "Susan."

I always hated it too. According to one of the Buckinghams, their producer James William Guercio added all that noise after they recorded it and left the studio. They didn't know he put it in until they heard the record.

There is an rare version that was sent out to radio stations back in 1968 that edited it out. It's a much better mix!

Also Michael Murphy's "Wildfire"...Piano intro & outro missing on the single edit. "Play That Funky Music" and "Kiss and Say Goodbye" usually fade early before the familiar endings.

Also the single edit of "Miss You" by the Stones is chopped up. Anyone ever heard the 8 minute "Disco" version?
