Radio Xavier Live

I've been reading info on this site for a long time and have enjoyed learning from all of you. I'm host of a new show called 'Radio Xavier Live' that airs Sunday mornnings on KSKY 660 7-9 a.m. It's a Catholic radio show that airs with the blessing of the bishops of both Dallas and Ft. Worth. I'm interested in hearing if any of ya'll have heard the show or have heard any feedback on it. I'd open to any constructive criticism.

Often on this site, ya'll discuss new formats and ideas for stations that are reported to be soon changing their formats. I've never read anyone suggest Catholic radio. The Catholic population in this area is growing rapidly, both Hispanic and English-speaking. I know we already have about a dozen Christian Protestant stations, but I'm just curious about your thoughts on the viability of a Catholic station in this market. Nationwide, Catholic stations are popping up everywhere. Ten years ago there were about five and now there are over 100 nationwide. The big cities have been slower to get them but some do have them, like Chicago and Houston. Thanks.

Interesting... I'll have to check out your show.

I'm a Protestant, and also a devoted listener to Don Fisher's Catholic homilies on WRR. Sunday mornings at 10 a.m.

Fisher is quite a gifted communicator.

Update: for those interested, here's a great example of Fisher's sort of message:

Congratulations on your outreach. The Church isn't as stuffy as a lot of folks think, but IMHO it has never used media to its advantage.

I'm going to assume you're familiar with Starboard Media, which is a Catholic radio organization out of Wisconsin. They own and operate or LMA several stations in the midwest with a format called Relavant radio. It's talk and commentary from the Catholic point of view. There are several other groups running stations. Two in Texas are diocesan operated in the Valley and Corpus. Interestingly enough there formats are beautiful music (not religious music) interspersed with "soft sell" Catholicism. I understand both are non-commercial FM's and are reasonably successful due mainly in part to the music programing. Both stream on the net. There's another in Portland, Oregon.

About two years ago a small one-time-only add appeared in the Texas Catholic from a group supposedly interested in aquiring a radio signal for full time Catholic programming in Dallas. Nothing ever came of it.

Good luck...I'll give your efforts a listen.

Two Catholic stations are audible here in Houston: KDEI 1250 out of Port Arthur, which runs the "Radio Maria" service, and KGBC 1540 in Galveston, which runs the EWTN Radio Network.

More info on KDEI and Radio Maria at: http://www.radiomaria.us/

And KGBC info at: http://www.maxkolberadio.com/

EWTN has quite a few affiliates and translators; info at their site: http://www.ewtn.com/radio/amfm.htm

I think the domestic EWTN feed is pretty much the same as the shortwave output on WEWN; they have English and Spanish feeds.
